Phazer, Forget the 3d printer BS and cost. Just go to a gun shop that sells 80% polymer AR lowers, get one and carefully grind it out with a dremel tool. You can buy them online but a cash purchase is always better. Metal ones are available but you will need a drill press to hollow it out. You will also need a lower parts kit . Then go buy the upper of your choice. Easy Peasy no license no paperwork.

I wobbled on this issue for years, guns or no guns?
I live in the country, would probably take the sheriff 30 minutes to mosey over here. So I said fuck it, I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6. Went full on gun nut. All legal guns, some made on 80% lowers. I sleep much better knowing I can defend myself against anything (except cops!)

My two cents on bear spray. I gave my mom a can, and was showing her how to use it, and inadvertently nudged the trigger. Just a teeny little "sst" for maybe a half a second.
We had to leave the house for 6 hours because you could NOT breathe in there. Ridiculous.

I could almost certainly receive a MMJ license but until laws change drastically I won't be doing so. When I fill out the FFL form... I check "NO".
