Any east coast alternatives to Worm Power castings?

Wholesale price has jumped 50% since bas started reselling their castings.

I don't know of any other companies that are mass producing high quality castings. Most worms are fed worm chow and peat products, sure they are technically worm castings, but I want better.

Anyone have any alternatives? Need a cubic yard- maybe two if a better price than one.

I just bought my own worm farm with a few thousand red wigglers. I buy a few hundred pounds of ewc a year now way I can produce all of it but I should be able to do a nice amount when it gets going.

I usually buy wiggle worm brand but I have noticed my last few bags looked sandy like they might be adding filler. The price has always been about 20$ for 30lb.

My fear with commercial castings is what exactly are they feeding them. I know most commercial compost is produced using literal garbage like pizza boxes, wood pallets and cooked food. The crazier I get with organics the picker I am becoming with the quality of everything.

Check out Vermont compost. I know its not VC but it is very very high quality. They add minerals and all the good stuff to make a humic rich compost.

I would use this as a base and the top dress with castings. Preferably have some castings of your own full of worms to get the pots going.

Thumbs up

It's not hard to make.

For one of my favorite compost pile, I went with what may have been stoned thinking ... seemed logical at the time

The worms loved it, absolutely went berserk.

I had reasoned that maybe compost feedstock with more chemical energy (starches and sugars) would compost hotter ... or something.

So I got the 'or something' happy ending. I started the pile around Thanksgiving with about 4 cubic yards of wood chips, manure, and about a cubic yard of starchy sugary things -
potatoes
100 pounds of orange seeds from the common landscape plant, that has orange seeds
Smoothie shop recycle-ables - fruit rinds, carrot with juice extracted, etc.

Just everything I could scrounge up or that wasn't too expensive.

The worms ate it all up.

I also used about a cubic yard of landscape flowers from a landscaper neighbor.

The judgment that it was a "good pile" basically came in March, when I took a look at it. It was completely transformed - no wood chips, no manure, no flowers, no potatoes, all dirt, and redworms.
