a fridge would be a very good grow box. if anything ever happened like a fire it would stay inside of a big metal box. i would clean out every shelf put a 250 watt hps in there. im supposing it's a full size fridgerator? or a mini one?

Why not leave the compressor and everything else on your functioning fridge for cooling? I've thought about this before and you can probably go down to a glass buisness and get them to make you a pane of glass to seperate your grow and your light. Then have the air pumped up into the freezer where its cool down and back on the light. Always wanted a fridge with nothing to do with it!

I've seen a few fridge grows too. A 250hps wouldn't be bad in there if it had a remote balast. You can mount that down where the compressor once was. Once you take the balast out of the picture a modest sized squirel fan of say 140-265 cfm (depending on where you live and how hot it is)
If you're in the market for a fridge, you can always check out craigslist.com. It's world wide, sorta like ebay, but is divided by city, so you can find stuff locally. What's more fun, is they have one section called "to be given away" and often fridges and stoves...ect are listed in that section. All you need is a truck to haul it away with. OR if you do have a truck, just drive your area the night before garbage collection day, amazing what you can find when dumpster diving! good luck, Jaxxx |

Hello all, You wilkl have serious heat issues due to the inherent design of a fridge- the fridge does not care if youa re trying to keep things cold or hot- the insulation is going tocause you troble. You will need a cool place to keep it and ahave serious vetilation.
A bud of mine did a upright freezer grow and it just was too hard to kewl except when the interior garage temps were in the 50's. I hate to be a nay sayer as it is a real good stealth project- afterall, whos going to question an old freezer with a humming sound coming from it.. Just my thoughts friend. minds_I

^^ add a different thermostat with a range around 75 degrees f. Sometimes people that make their own beer use a frig with a different one. You can buy these themostats that require really no wiring.

The key is proper ventilation. I've seen a few of these grows on OG work perfectly. 1) make sure you have a remote balast on hps 2) good fan for circulating air.

temp problems and ventilation were my main concerns, if i had it as a running fridge theres no way i cud get thru all the insulation etc at the back for vent, i figured that if i could get this all out along with the working parts so it just the shell the actual back of the fridge wud just be a layer of plastic a few ml thick, making it cooler straight away and allowing an easy point do stick sum vents/fans in. was thinking off using envirolites again to help reduce temps 2 x 125 watt one of each spec. fridge has been sat here for months and my mate can sort me the lights £20 for both so itchin to get this underway!! oh yeah im in the uk and grow outdoors thru summer so this wud be for thru the winter really which again shud help wiv temp problems!!
