info on pollen chucking for fun
Hello all
I am new to collecting pollen (built isolation chamber so excited) or using colloidal silver to make seeds and I simply want to have some fun here in isolation and make some fun crosses. Can you all explain a little in baby steps what FI F2 and S1 S2 are actually DOING to the crosses? making stronger traits and locking in terp profiles and such? Is it correct taking a male and female from same strain (reg seeds) and crossing them, then taking these seeds and growing them out, finding best phono and crossing back to original male mass an F1 gen? Sorry for long question but super interested in all this and want to learn as much as I can to play around in our beautiful hobby!! Thanks all |

Pollen chucking is just that...
Get some pollen & chuck it at whatever you've got & hope for the best. Your best bet for getting the info you request is to read, read, read, then read some more. Look through the breeding section for the same questions you would like answers for. Use the search function. It works fair. As you learn the answers to your questions you will undoubtedly come up with more questions. Anyway, I'm not positive what you are asking in your first question so I will provide this... F1 is typically/traditionally a cross between two stable parents (P1 generation) but in the cannabis scene it is more & more referred to for any cross of unrelated genetic starting material. F2, F3, F4, etc, are simply sibling (sister x brother) crosses. A male & female combined from the F2 (for example) makes the F3 generation. S1 is a first generation self pollenated plant. S2 would be seed produced from S1 plants. Your second question is an example of a back cross. What an awesome hobby this is. I especially love the testing. |

Books?
There are a few "basic" principals spoken of in some cannabis growing/breeding books but the best understanding is going to come from college level studies. Therefore... College level botany books... I've seen mention of Allard though haven't procured his works. I was looking at a "Quantitative Genetics" text book to purchase as well. I cannot make any specific recos. |

A lot of what you want to do will be experiential learning. As Shia Lebouf says, just do it!!
