Anyone ever have a MRE?
What are they like? I'm not expecting a gourmet meal but they can't be that bad? I was thinking they might be useful for hiking/camping since they heat themselves..I was also curious what our military eats in the field. I ordered a single one to test out (beef stew). Looking fwd to it

They've come along way. The old pork chow mein was one of the worst foods I've ever consumed. The new stuff isn't so bad.

"MRE" in the first versions, were considered quite honestly to be "Meals REJECTED by Ethiopians"! There was so much bad press the military had to change them and make something that was edible, lol

Yeah, the older ones were packaged in a darker brown and quite a bit less elaborate.

I used to have about 500$ worth of new age ones..some were decent as I ate some and gave a lot away to hikers in my previous sequoia forest days....they were reaching the end of their shelf life...I will be ordering more soon...yeehaw..those hot meal chemical bags go first as I found out on the lake ...wrapping in black plastic and setting in full sun worked ok in emergency...the new ones aint bad for what they are..the old military ones sucked and you needed some tobasco/strong seasoning to make it palatable...I like to have atleast a months worth of mre meals stashed...I would have more if I had room...always be prepared

they were always way better than starving. what can you expect from something made to have that long a shelf life?
the best addition they ever made to the MRE was the Tabasco sauce i'm pretty sure i ate enough of them in 6 years that they won't have too embalm me |

C-rations Pinball. I guess they didn't serve them in Cu Chi at the 25th evac. LOL. My fav was helmet liners and motherfukers, yum. It was really ham and lima beans. Open them up peel bake the top look inside and you would swear it was vomit, I shit you not. That is what gave you the shits.
