Wrapping RVK for noise reduction
I know a lot of folks box their fans up and fill the boxes with rockwool, foam etc, but has anybody tried wrapping the fan in rockwool then putting a bin liner or black and white plastic around the rockwool to secure it?
I ask as my loft hatch is about 50cm x 50cm squeezing a box up through that is just a royal pain in the ass. Would be much easier if I could just wrap it in insulation then the plastic. Just wondering if for any reason that would be a bad idea... |

A card board box - flattened to get through the hatch then re-assembled in? Seen them stuck in a box which was later filled with builders expanding foam.

Ive heard of people successfully doing this but fellers.. please make sure you're not making any chronic fire traps when you're wrapping fans eh ?

we went and got some of that pink insulation .. wrapped our fans up in it.. taped it.. then put normal sheet around it to keep it in place and everything. id say we reduced sound by about half if not more!!!.. the fans are alittle bulky.. but man did it help. lol.

The reason I wrap in cling film is so the expanding foam do sent stick to the rvk

![]() Top Shelf, I just thought about this today - surely a card board box folded flat would fit through your hatch? |
