need pc help someone please - OG/ Cannabisworld Refugees - International Cannagraphic Magazine Forums

i run 2 pc's through a router and never had probs however the main pc will not access the internet but the secondary pc will without problems.The main pc just keeps coming up with dns error page cannot be displayed.
If anyone knows what could be the prob pls help.Ive de fragged done scandisk deleted all cookies temp file,ran virus scan and still no luck.

Are you running a proxy on them? Some proxy programs will leave entries in IE even after the proxy is no longer being used...and often those proxies have been shut down.

Does the PC get an IP address? (not a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx)
Can the PC ping www.google.com?
Do other internet based programs work? (not IE or port 80 based)

Go to each machine and open up a command window [ start>run>cmd>enter ]

At the dos prompt and type ipconfig, you'll see something like this,

You want both computers to say 'nearly' identical things.

Come back with what the differences are.

Your I/O ports can shut down if they overheat, as can the nic or usb device, dust, heat, those are the issues that caused a similar problem for me last year. A good vac job on a regular schedule solved my issue.

Have you tried to reset your router and modem?
