I don't believe that it could be the growers fault that 20 beans didn't pop. Getting beans to split is the easiest part of growing from seed but as I said previously it's not the vendor's fault.

i recently had this issue with another seed shop. i knew it was the beans and not me as its act first time i,ve had the prob full stop( no germination)

i contacted the vendor , they said would send new pack. i said no thanks no point . trial them yourself and take them of your site. so as not to sell bunk seeds to some other guys.

you can't fall behind there for souvenirs if you have any decency . however theres a lot of cry babies and bullshit artists out there too that will lie and try too scam.

if your buying seeds its always a gamble . could grow them out and be total shit or not even the real deal or many other things.

in this case he had them replaced thats pretty bloody good. any vendor should check into the germ rate now and bin them if found to be dodgy. you know after that if they are found to be old or faulty, then give them something else.

I changed the name of the thread since this ONE POST guy never bothered to research his purchase, and he did get a second batch for free from SB.

That's not true, getting seeds to split/germ can be very difficult. Especially with over or under watering. A poor draining soil will rot the seeds and too dry a soil will not work either.

You need decently warm temps, it is hard to germinate seeds at 40 degrees.

Maybe he is watering full strength nutrient on seeds, who knows right?

So yes it is possible for the grower to ruin forty seeds.

I am sure the strain was old stock. That is still his fault for not researching that, and then using techniques necessary to germinate old seed. Especially after the replacements were sent.

Seeds are not a sure thing no matter how new or old they are, it takes basic skills to successfully grow a seed to bag, and even more skills to do it properly.

The point is, the last person to be blamed here is Seed boutique. They do not deserve to be slammed over grower error or breeder error. They get the seeds to us. And they did it twice for this gentleman. So therefore if the OP is confident that he properly attempted germination, twice, he should be slamming DP, not SB. Simple as that.

Kind regards

Reading this is like watching an old episode of the twilight zone. Bad product twice over, lame consumer !
Sounds to me like the marketing advanced faster than the integrity could keep pace.

I just find it hard to believe someone who claims to have been growing this long could stuff up the germination of 20 beans. I'm fully aware that beans can be hard to get to split as I said previously I had only 2 seeds pop from 2 packs and that's the northern lights I'm growing currently. I also agree as I've said twice before it's no fault of any vendor of seeds but talking from my personal experience I've only ever had 2 maybe 3 seeds ever that didn't split. I don't worry about things like this,it happens. On the other hand, if a whole pack don't germinate for someone with even the slightest knowledge of growing from seed, then I lay blame at the breeders door. They are the ones responsible for their products germination rate. I do believe the whole paper towels method originated from breeders as a quick way to establish germination rates. If they ain't doing this small thing before releasing seeds onto the market then that's shocking. It's not the responsibility or even legal in some cases for the seed banks to test viability of seeds.

To be fair, I wouldn't have known these are old seeds either. What sort of research allows you to find that out? Any other seeds not worth buying? I think on the web page and on the package, a "packed on"/"packed for" date would be very helpful. And an extra note if they were not stored under optimal conditions. As far as I know, no veggie/flower ("mainstream") seed company sells seeds older than the current calendar year, and they have sales at the end/beginning of the gardening season to unload old excess. If they or anyone else sells old seed, it should be declared as such because the reasonable assumption is that it is new. I have veggie seeds 15+ years old that come up fine, cannabis seeds from 10+ years ago as well, and more recent stuff that doesn't come up well.
