Ventilation needed for 2'x2'x4'
I've just built a cabinet that's approximately 2'x2'x4', and I'm still not sure what I'm going to do for ventilation and odor control. I've got not problem building a DIY Carbon Scrubber, but I'm trying to find what fan to get. I'd like to spend less than $150 on the fan.
There are several at this website that I'm interested in https://www.westsidewholesale.com/ind...726022.548@@@@ My favorites are the two Panasonic Whisperline 6" fans at the bottom of the page. There are more detailed specs on the smaller one here and for the larger one here. Would either of these work for my situation? I'd like to make a DIY Pro Style Carbon Filter as shown on the thread here by RM - aquagrower I didn't build in any space for the blower or filter in my cabinet so I'm just going to have them sitting off to the side I guess. When I have company I'll just throw them in the closet or something so it's not as obvious, but I don't plan on having anyone in my room, except maybe if my parents visit and want to see my apartment. For lighting I'm going to be using 156w of CFLs for this grow, in the future I might get a 250w HPS for flowering, but that'd be the max. I'd love to hear anyone's opinions on this. Thank you! |

My cab is about the same size, I fit 4 plants in there (one per sq/ft). For ventilation I only have two 120v 120mm fans (look like large computer fans). I think the CFM is around 200, which is enough i've found. So the 6" 240CFM fan should be enough for your needs. You will need a fan to blow over your canopy as well.
I use a 250HPS, I had to use a cool tube to keep the temperatures low enough. So i'd recommend getting a cool tube, or air cooled hood when you go with the 250HPS. |

Alright, thanks for the info. What were your temps before and after the cooltube, and the temps outside the cabinet? I don't know that I'd be able to use a cooltube, but I'm sure I could set something up. Thank you!

I would just say don't do it cheap... and go with the MH and HPS not cfls.

I'm not doing CFLs because I want to be cheap. Thanks for the info though, I'll stick to my decision unless you've got some amazing reason for me not to use CFLs, and I'd like some solid evidence to support your reasons. People dismiss CFLs far too often and too quick, and I'd like to see how I can do with this setup. Trust me, I've done my research and I haven't made any of these decisions lightly.
Oh, and the complete mount and fixtures for the lighting cost me less than $30, and 6 veg lights and 6 flower lights will cost <$60, and the lights are rated to last me 10 grows, if I get a single grow out of them they'll pay for themselves. The 250w HPS I'm looking at is only like $150 shipped, so if that's what I wanted I could have easily just bought that, but I opted not to for now. Last edited by bounty29; 07-08-2006 at 10:32 AM.. |

Don't buy a fan based on CFM ratings alone. The static pressure rating of a fan is just as important. In MeLikesPCs post^ there's a link to a great read on choosing the right PC fan.

Forget the PC fan, S&P td-100 - cheap, wicked silent, excellent static pressure, recommended all across the boards.

Ello. I have a cab looking like blynx's 1 sqft except mines 1.3sqft and I use a 110 cfm GE bathroom fan that's rated at 2 sones, It moves plenty of air and was only 100 bucks at home de-pot. Have seen a few DiY's on how to make a filter for one or one that's alike. It's cooling 180 watts of bulbs all diff sizes largest being a single 42w in center. That cab stays within 8 deg of room temp with lights on so right now its at a cool 79! The whisper line would be nice for how quiet they are but are a little pricey. Also adding a small axil fan over a passive intake can help with static pressure problems when using low static pressure fans. Hope it helps!
