EarthBox

Any disadvantages? I'm thinking about a bigger version.

Well it doesn't look like anything you can't make yourself, I don't think the main principle behing this design will work well for pot plants.
This system keeps a portion of the soil immersed in water so the medium draws water by capilary action from the bottom tub, I've found MJ likes to dry out slightly between waterings and doesn't like "wet feet".
The other problem I see is with this "timed release" fertilizer wich by the way is not organic, MJ requires similar ferts than say tomatoes but MJ requires varying ratios of ferts for different stages, it can cause problems when say would like to flush your plants before harvesting.

Dutch grow boxes use similar principles but with a practical application towards MJ, if you want me to I can post instructions for a good DIY design that's cheap and proven efficient.

Thanks Suby, can't wait.

I share some of your thoughts about the earthbox in the configuration they describe not being ideal for pot. Esspecially the granular fert thing(which i have seen in organic), not working. Instead I was thinking to use some enriched soil with extra perlite for veg, and then fert from the top down just a couple times during flower to boost the K.

As far as wet feet, the system actually doesnt keep any soil in water it has a resevoir at the bottom where the taproot goes, and the roots grow in the soil above. The water from the resevoir evaporates and wicks up through the soil, then it hits a layer of plastic and stops at the topsoil, which saves a lot of water, so i'm thinking that if I'm using a well aerated mix, the plant will not drown because it will only be the taproot that is always in water thus allowing air to always circulate and the plant to drink whenever it wants. or would it be too soggy? anyone have any experience?
