Can trichome texture tell us anything?
Hello Breeders, I have started a lot of seeds recently and have found some selections to be difficult. I've been wondering why different phenos of the same strain have oily/greasy textures while others have very sticky textures. Both are very intriguing. Do any of you breeders select for one texture/consistency over the other? Both seem equally terpy as well.
I was hoping Sam the Skunkman could speak on the texture of the Skunk #1 as well as how these textures affect hash processing and storage. Any good discussion is welcomed. Thanks

Quote:
'Pennywise' resin clumps up while the rest is runny, sticky. The plant for the shatter is just not very oily. Plants can be oily and produce shatter if the runniness is from light terpenes and not heavy terpenes. |

Thanks for the response Bongstar420! But as always, I wasn't too clear. I meant to ask about the texture of the growing bud when you rub it between your fingers. I am wondering if the texture (sticky or oily) can tell us anything about the finished product. Similar to how you might smell limonene and be able to assume the high will be creative and possibly uplifting. Does texture effect the high in a certain way?

I can't be positive but I would think that the greasy textured plants may contain V.O.C.s that are more sensitive to atmospheric conditions. By that, I'm saying that those particular "greasy" compounds are volitilized at a lower vapor pressure. It could be itdue to temp differences or atmospheric/barometric pressures.
Just a thought... |

Thanks for the responses guys. Terpene types are probably the likely cause. When you say survive Tom Hill, you mean intact? It seems they might pop or smear. Does that friend prefer that texture for hash? Have you chosen for texture? It seems when one pops a pack of seeds, smell/terpenes can be very similar, but trich texture differs which is strange.

Sourpuss, do you prefer to mircoplane or sieve that bubble? And does the greasiness affect your choice in tools?

I personally dry it as much as possible, normally it will crumble again its so dry then ill press into hash balls.
I remember the super greasy plant not going back to crumble but remained a sticky mass of goodness. Type of shit you couldnt touch without it stickin everywhere. I guess what your sayin is I shoulda microplaned it? To dry it? Only way it would microplane would be frozen I think. Imo if I left it in the fridge long enough it would crumble. |

Oh I never ran the strain more than once. Wasnt a cloner back then. Strain was sour secret dna. The bubble tasted like perfume and hash. Really unique and enjoyable.
