Zamal Type A x Warlock
I noticed seedbay was doing these as a special with Biddy Early a while back before it went down. Recently I have been reading a little bit about Zamal on the forums, and I was interested in this strain.
I am wondering if anyone here has grown this cross, and I would also like to know from Gerrit if this is a line he is still working with or testing or whatever. Any other info or comments on this strain would be nice...

Hey Ezra,
my buddy did a test grow of the Zamal X warlock,, most all of teh pheno he got were sativa dom.. took the heat well (his cabinet was 90-100 F).. grew into monsters.. flowered for 85 days, most over 5ft.. when put in flower at 1ft.. had a very pleasant smell and taste. high was soaring and well rounded.. i would grow them again but this time i would look for Warlock pheno.. should be better on the flowering time.. Sorry dont have any pics.. if i can find some from his grow i will post them up.. Keep It Green and Stay Safe.. HE

hieagle420 thanks for the reply. from what you wrote - sounds like a great strain. Could you describe the smell a little bit more? Can you describe the appearance of the buds? What about yield? Pics would be awesome if you can find em. thanks man.
I would really like to see what Gerrit has to say on this one as well, but I guess he is not active on the forums for the moment.

buds were spear shape and not tight but not loose either.. the couple phenos we had were light to moderate producers. one was 3oz dried and the other maybe 4oz dried.. but teh plants were 4-5 ft tall.. nice plant structure , stretched 3x it height in flower.. my buddy had them in his attic for most of the summer.. they bent themselve over to get out of the heat..very weird never seen anything like that b4. after that we put them in the basement.. and they took off.. probley would have yielded more it started in the basement.. i will try and find some pics.. gotta see if my buddy kept any pics or not.. Hello Ezra & hieagle420,
I've grown approx 30 Zamal that Gypsy gave me approx 5 years ago. The initial germination rate wasn't very high but raised above 90% after I "cracked" the shell's. Sadly, I only got 2 males that reverted in to females before I could collect any pollen so I could not preserve the Zamal in it's pure form. The most common phenotype was a lanky/branchy Sativa with loose buds that had a soft carrot aroma and little to zero trichome production on the leaves but abundant on the flowers. The flowering times did vary a lot but I suspect that much of the variation occurred because of a difference in the "age trigger", so its probably more a difference in the "on-set" of flowering than a difference in the duration of flowering. There where 2 exceptions to the rule namely: A) Standard growing pattern but with the carrot aroma intensified in a way that it became more of a peppery smell (I hope this makes sense). B) A more upright growing pattern with slightly more firm long "foxtail" cola's, but with the same carrot aroma as the others. This one also had the longest flowering period (17 weeks). The high that they produce is a bit to much Sativa for my liking, same goes for the crosses made with it. (I'm having enough trouble to keep focus as is) Both types above where used in a test cross with the Warlock and given out as free-packs (most of them in Spain). Although I was quite happy with the performance of the A-line I decided not to offer/market it for commercial reasons. The B-line did not "improve" much compared to it's Zamal mother aside the fact that the males found among them where stable (did not change in to female). The growing pattern that hieagle420 describes (branches sagging down and then growing upwards again) sounds like the A-line and is coming from the Zamal mother. Maybe some people remember, I was kidding around presenting it as "Cannabis Asparagus" at the HTCC '02 or '03. I can't really say that I'm still working on it, but I still can (and will occasionally) reproduce the A-line since I've preserved both parents. The small batch that I still have is already "spoken for" but I will have some more within a few months, I will ask Gypsy if he would make them available as "freebees on request". Kind regards, Gerrit |

Zamal-A x Warlock pics
Hello everybody:
Here you have a couple photographs of one huge indivual female Zamal-A x Warlock plant. It was grown during the summer season of 2004 in mother earth with 100% organic methods. No nutrients were added along the four months life cycle, but a good piece of last year compost produced by the vegetable garden was placed at the bottom of the planting hole when transplanting. The seed was started early June and the resulting pistillate plant was harvested in the first days of October, giving a very high yield of high quality, distinctive buds. These pictures were taken when the plant was about three months old (end of August). The impressive pungency of the final product remembered wine vinegar, and the effect was potent and complex. Nobody used to forget the name of the strain after tasting it; they called it Zamala ![]() Greetings, Random Last edited by Random00; 07-27-2006 at 12:24 AM.. |

Very impressive outdoor plants random!
Seems that the zamal A x warlock cross has the great vegetative vigour and extreme branching from the zamal. The yield of your plant must be huge! Im quite surprised with the early flowering. Pure zamal can finish in December but your plant finished in early October thanks to the warlock influence. I hope you enjoyed the finished product. Looks like a special plant! dubi |

Hello, Dubi:
You are as right about the vigor and branching pattern showed by this plant as for the high yield. This individual plant really had a nice balance of desirable traits from both parents, and I truly enjoyed the finished product; however, if it was my plant, I would have left it rippen for one week more. Find a full article on this grow show and his grower (in Spanish) at: Page 23 - "El más ecológico de la ciudad" Here you have a picture of the tiny Zamala-A x Warlock seeds: Greetings, Random |
