$180 is a great price. Wonder if it's as good as they advertise. Only a 1 year warranty.

It is such a great price that I ordered 4 of them. Order straight from their website. www.hidhut.com i think they are $175 on there, plus the guy doesn't have to pay ebay and paypal fees.
They seem to work great. I have had no problems with them at all. I am still skeptical because they are so cheap...but damn do they do everything as advertised. Really quiet, very light, don't get as hot as my magnetic ballasts. Easy to mount because they are so light. I have the 240v model. But soon they will all be 120/240 compatible it says on their site. I am going to order 2 of their 400w MH ballasts for $99 each. Man those are good deals. I will let you know if they explode. check out the rest of the setup https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?p=494393 |

Great deal on the ballasts, damn, I just bought a Lumetek for $240 and thought I got a great deal. Of course reliability is everything and the Lumitek has 5 year warranty. I think that digi ballasts are going to drop in price like computers have for the last ten years. Oh well! Last edited by BlindDate; 07-04-2006 at 09:47 AM.. |

Yeah I am not sure if I mentioned it, but wait a month or two if you can to buy from hidhut. In August all their ballasts will work 90V - 260V. I just bought the 240v models because that is what I need. 90V- 260V would be nice though.
They also have these crazy 400w MH bulbs that I am trying out. They look like a HPS. I don't know, check them out. here is what is says on their site....who knows " HID HUT, Inc.’s 400W MH bulb is an awesome deal!!! It has a nearly identical color spectrum (if not better) than the most popular Horticultural bulb on the market- for a fraction of the cost. It has 43791 lumens of output, with a color temperature of 4165 kelvin, and a color rendering index of 65. It has an average bulb life of 10,000 hours and can be used in vertical or horizontal orientation. Check out the spectrum charts from actual testing! Keep in mind- The scales are different. Ours produced over 43000 lumens, the Hortilux produced 26,130 lumens- big difference. We promise you will be satisfied!!! " |

Why would you put a ballast in a hood?

cmon man, that ballast comes with the socket, all by itself.....
maybe i needed to clarify. how do you mount that "SOCKET!" in any reflector or cooltube. *as for why a manufacturer puts a ballast in a hood, i think it's to save on space for those who don't want to be burdened by the remote ballast, and don't care about heat issues. I just took that socket off and wired in the sockets that came with my cooltubes. Most nice reflectors have their own socket and so you just rewire the 3 wires right in there.
