The post you are refering to does not really talk about Yumboldt more about the Sag lines in general.
Meh. It matters not. Today's Yumbolt is what it is- quite good, imho.

From it's origins & my limited experience, I suspect it's an old inbred seed line that doesn't throw a lot of phenos all over the place, that there's little variation from the mean. Somebody in Norcal worked it every season for 15-20 years before Sag came across it which was 20 years ago.

Well I think related strains are all over the hills of humboldt county or were as out door. I've tried a bunch of different outdoor that had similiar terpenes that leaned a bit more in different directions. They shared similiar elements of the high which was an indica dominant hybrid that had a sort of Ray of sunshine effect. The yumboldt I tried was like an ultimate version of that General family of terpenes and was just better. It had this quality to the stone that like radiated positive warm waves from my gut and solar plexus. Does it still do that?

I remember one time I came across something similiar passing through Mendo some old dude had it and I mentioned I tried some similiar before and what is it and he said it was himalian and afghan acclimatized to the region. He said the specific charachter came from the himilian and probably different people took it different directions like he said a lot of people were crossing it to mexican at one point.

Everybody's experience is a little different, depending, and so are descriptions. I think it has a warm & mellow effect, laid back with that lift to the imagination I like. It has that sort of mental whoosh, a more complex day dreamy high than a lot of WLD derivatives but it's not edgy or fidgety, either. It has good staying power with a bit of a letdown at the end. I hope that makes sense. I dragged a bit out of the wayback stash to toke on the last couple of days, so I'm experiencing it rather than remembering it, ya know? The smoke, thru a bubbler, is sweet, earthy, with bits of roasted nuts & burnt rubber in the background, very piney/minty on the exhale, which lingers. Well cured, the aroma is sweet, soft, piney, perfume-y, not funky-skunky at all. It's unusual, probably having cousins in Norcal, as you say.

I'm no expert, having only come back to cannabis over the last couple of years. OTOH, I learned to appreciate good weed, very good weed, long ago. Yumbolt def is that. Should I live long enough, I'll probably grow more in the future.

For me, it was well worth the effort. Even if it's not all of what you want it to be, few things are, I doubt you'll feel any different.
