Question Burnt Bulb, or busted lamp?

I have a 250 HPS lamp that has stopped working as of last night. It happened after a redesign of my cabinet set up, and I fear I may have jarred the insides of my bulb around too much and busted it.
I saw some pics of people's vurnt out bulbs, and they looked just that, Burnt, but mine looks normal. Since it didn't actually burn out though, I guess it should be normal.
The ballast still hums as always, so I don't think it is the problem, but I worry I might have pulled something loose or jarred something out of place in there too.
When I plugged it in, the filliment in the bulb flashed briefly and faintly, but failed to spark to life.
I have a new bulb on the way from 100bulbs.com, & I just hope i don't need a new lamp also.

So my question is...
How can I tell if it is only the bulb, or if I need to learn how to re-wire my ballast?

Thanks for any HPS info from out there...

If the bulb wouldn't fully light but would sorta light, kinda sounds like an ignitor problem.
I'm no ballast expert either though.. If you jarred your bulb pretty bad I would imagine it would mess sumtin up...
Have you tried it since?
If it doesn't turn out to be a bulb simple ballast parts are relatively cheap and easy to find.

those bulbs are hard to bust...they are made to travel, ive jarred em and even dropped em with no problems. if there was some juice then the connections are probably okay. did you make the cord longer? somtimes, particularly w/ 600w, they cant fire from too far away

Hey everyone who stopped by,
I didn't mess with the cords too much, but might have pulled too hard on them
The filliment only emmited a brief flash the first time i tried it, and then was dark
The ballast still hums. Ifthe new bulb is also dead, then I will check the connections to the lamp
Thanks for all any any advice
