The rules clearly state you can use a cup that can be filled with 250g's of medium, so I was losing 80g's of root spacing. Which I think is quite a lot if you break it down percentage wise, 30% more root space.
The rules clearly state the 250 gr weighting method is just to determine the maximum volume of the cup. There's nothing about having 250 gr of medium, IT'S ALL ABOUT HAVING LESS THAN 250 ML VOLUME. This was meant as a rule to make sure everyone can play, even if their containers are not marked in ounces.
It's kinda odd that you managed to read that in the rules, and also be so sure of it, cause they are clear and easy to understand.

^^Stoner moment? lol

Here's my Tikals, so far so good...

While planting the smaller one I broke the end of the tap root since it was curled and kinda tricky to handle. Doh!

I have a seeded Maple leaf Indica, and about 40 days into flowering I broke a bottom branch off. I decided to see if any would sprout and stuck them in a paper towel. Out of around 15 seeds I got 3 to pop.

Maple Leaf Indica (Sensi Seeds)

So I've got three Tikal by Ace and three Maple Leaf Indica by Sensi. Any males will be removed from the contest.

so just to be clear the only real rules are 6oz cup and roots have to be contained in said cup? so i could lets say make a hempy yogurt cup and sit it in a 5 gallon bucket for water?

Avinash.miles should give you the best response on that, but i think it will stun the plant if you have to cut the roots too often..

but most importantly, THIS:

Dr. King you are confusing mass with volume

like explosiv said, 250 mL is just to test the true volume of your "6oz" containers. TRUE volume because 6oz is just the "serving size" not an accurate portrayal of how much volume the container actually can hold. The purpose of the tests are to ensure that different brands (different types of containers) all with 6oz (or whatever in metric) serving sizes are still within the regulations.
For example, yoplait says 6 oz serving size BUT it actually holds LESS than 250 mL, by my tests.

Water has a mass of 1 g per mL of volume. YES, coco, peat & perlite, rockwool and nearly all grow mediums are MUCH less dense than water.

as for stihgnobevoli's idea, i URGE yall to do it and post pics if you believe your idea is within the rules or NOT (just share along if you want in whatever tiny container you have, smaller or larger; this is for FUN and LEARNING imho). These yogi cup challenges are about sharing our collective experiences, as we grow together (simultaneously) in tiny containers, watching how other techniques performed in relation to our own and all the others. In the past I remember a someone making a hempy style yogi cup(s) before, as well as sewing their own tiny smart pot and sitting it INSIDE the yogi cup just to follow the rules; I love the faiselle idea that Only Ornamental does. I've been waiting to see a yogi cup PPK or the like.
So yes, do it, try it, let's see it.

I never think of this contest as "mine" it's OURS, so when people ask "can i do _______", I expect the entire community to respond; why?, because I'm not the boss of the competition. The rules should be clear enough to not need an interpreter. If they are not clear enough, I apologize.

i guess anything we think about all comes down to trial and error once you get down to doing it. right? maybe you don't need to water at night, but i most definitely do.

i would have agreed with you 3 rounds ago but a ran into the wall of my own misconceptions and was forced to change my mind

if it aint broke i don't fix it, but when it is i do

don't EVER let that yogurt dry out and you will be happy you did!

good luck!
