Thoughts on humans changing the genetics of the seeds we breed.

So i was thinking earlier....... Since we stick to these set lighting schedules indoors during veg and flower.

With the absence of variation in daily day length or night length , will we have adverse effects on our offspring?

10 years from now knowing that the genetics will adapt, will we be searching for genetics that never had these man made light schedules?

I think the answer ti this particular question would be a resounding YES! How could our artificial envoronments NOT have any effect on pheno development & therefore, breeding choices. It's why some strains are described as "indoor" plants..

NO... because there are still people that are making seeds under the big free lamp in the sky.

It has been happening for the last 40 years. ALl the seeds I have used outside perform just fine. The only thing that may get affected would be the dark photoperiod lenth. Could get stuck to 12 making the plants flower later in the season. Most likely no though. Not worried or concerned on any level

I think that if anything plants are becoming more susceptible to those day length fluctuations. If the photo-period is constant and then they are exposed to shifting day/night period then they should notice it more right, not less. TBH I think it is more important for the plants to respond to these changes rather than just a constant day length because areas near the equator don't even go past 12 hours, so the fluctuations in photo-period is basically the only guide it has.

The only way I see it being a problem is if a private breeder spent 20+ years breeding a strain indoors under artificial light and never exposed the plants to anything else. They would also have to never share any of their seeds. At that point they might end up with a strain that isn't capable of surviving the intensity of the sun. As for the whole light cycle well if the plant did adjust to the indoor schedule after 20 years putting it outside might stress it but I'd be more worried about the moon light and other light sources at night as the strain could have adapted to complete and total darkness that it was sued to indoors.
