Feds allow growing on reservations...

People's of the First Nations, Indigenous Peoples, whatever the politically correct terminology is, have been granted the freedom to grow cannabis on their reservation lands - if the state they are located in has legalized cannabis growing.

There is some push back from tribal elders who insist their anti-alcohol programs would suffer.

I think the people in question would be far better served by growing and using cannabis than offering more anti-alcohol and anti-drug counseling.

This takes effect as of now, December 2014.

If the Indians (politically incorrect term) are allowed to grow weed on their land,
shouldn't the rest of us be allowed to grow our weed on the land we own?

Excellent point, Bud Green Sr!

Step back and look at the progress in the last 10-20 years! It could happen, Bud Sr!

Nov. 5, 1996...California- 1st state to legalize medical marijuana. Now look at all the states since then approving MMJ....23!!!!

And look at CO and WA wanting a referendum, and passing with voters voicing their beliefs! Two now, more to come soon!!

Look ahead...Native Americans granted freedom to grow on their lands.

It's coming!!! I do believe we'll be alive to see it allowed in all states, growing legally. Not 30 years from now, but sooner!!!

Technically you don't own your land unless you have an allodial title. The Native Americans have sovereign ruling over themselves and actually "own " their land through treatises which is why they can grow on their land.

We now have four states, Colorado, Washington. Oregon and Alaska where pot is legal for recreational use.. Indian lands have special privileges like gambling. I heard Nebraska and Oklahoma are suing Colorado in Federal court for legalizing pot. Good luck jerks. Obama signed into to law a freeze on federal pressure against medical marijuana and the walls keep falling.

In Indian Country the subject is controversial too. No different usually then the next community when it comes to the elders views along with the trend for most tribal councils to be dead set against cannabis.

To lump all the nations and reservations under one is foolish. Each sovereign nation will make its own decisions and the same for separate bands of said Nation.

I am Odawa/Ojibwa (Ottawa/Chippewa) and have seen how most people are envisioning this decision with a bias view.

Study history and learn more about the "Two Row Wampum". This international treaty of peace indicated that we tolerate and live side by side but are seperate entities and sovereign nations.

Question therefore really is : How the fuck did the American Native Nations all get screwed like the rest of you folks , where is the sovereignty promised ?

Do not worry, the federal govt and Bureau Of Indian Affairs will have their noses in the middle of this somehow someway sad to say..
