Biddy Early info

Hey there Magnus Gen/all,

Just wondering if anybody could give info on the Biddy early... like - feeding suggestions (whether it enjoys high levels or low levels of neuts etc), how many phenos I'm looking for etc etc. I've just popped three in some pots after germing along with a Mr Nice Early Queen. Never grown the Biddy before and so just looking for some info on what to expect.

Thanks all comments,

Kal.

The Biddy can handle high nute levels pretty well after its "settled, and growing strong" but the taste will be much better i.m.o. when grown at moderate feeding levels.

>how many phenos I'm looking for< well, I'll guess hundreds if you look at every possible trait or (nuance) difference, but there will be little exception to the following traits:

Flexible stem/branches and strong lateral growth, easy to train in a grape vine shape.
Fast/early maturing*
Reasonable to good mold resistance.
Not to strong but pleasant sweet Aroma.
Above average potency with a somewhat disturbing effect on balance and orientation (is in fact much more fun/pleasant than it sounds).

*Please note that the term "early" is relative, so don't expect to harvest in the first week of September, but most if not all will be done by half October and some in the last week of Sept (in Holland).
Also, there will be more variance in harvest times when growing in pot's due to the variance in sensitivity to "flower triggering" pressure like rootbound or extreme underwatering.

Good luck with your grow.

Regards,
Gerrit

Thx for the info, Gerrit. Started 10 myself, but only 6 made it to my guerilla garden. Other 4 were too runty for my liking. Very skunky to me, it's been a good decade or more since I've grown a skunker.
Here's a group shot days before they were hauled out to thier permanent home. They seemed pretty leggy, hope the lateral growth kicks in now they're in the ground.
Interesting take on the harvest times, i.e., the 'underwatering' bit. Being out in a guerilla patch, I have to haul water. Can only manage 4 gal. a trip, so unless I'm augmented by rain, I can never grow "monster" plants. Quality over quantity has always been my goal, just as long as I have enough to get me thru a yr.
I live in a coastal location that is very humid, so always have to deal w/ mold. Last few yrs I've used Neem Oil as an all-around bug/ mold preventative, but plan to use Serenade this yr.
Would love to see/hear from others growing the Biddy. Cheers!

Hello Highlighter,

Could you elaborate on the runty comment (just curious).

>They seemed pretty leggy, hope the lateral growth kicks in now they're in the ground.<

They will, now that the roots have more space.

>Quality over quantity has always been my goal, just as long as I have enough to get me thru a yr.<

I'm confident that they will fulfil those goals, let me know at the end of the season if you agree.

I have only had mold problems on Biddies that where heavily infested/damaged by caterpillars, but even then it did not spread very fast so I think you will be OK.
Are you growing other plants alongside?

Hey Gerrit,

By "runty", I mean smaller and less vigorous than thier brothers and sisters.

One of the 4 died off, one made it out to the patch w/ the others, while these two remain potted til they at least show sex. I hate killing off runts, as they often can prove to be the most potent of the lot.

They are half the size of the ones out in the patch. Here's one:

Started some of my own "Rocketwreck" (apollo11 X trainwreck) 1st wk in june, quite small, an afterthought. Always nice to have some variety!
I'll check back when there is something to really show. Cheers!

Just checking back in to say how happy I am w/ the end result! I'm trying to let them cure properly, but the daily "burping" of the jars intoxicates me, and I can't help taking a hit! I feel fortunate to have gotten an orange aroma mixed perfectly w/ a mellow skunkiness.
The bad news is, out of the nine plants, got only 2 girls. Kept the biggest AND earliest-expressing male and dusted some lower branches. Back in business next yr! Had a wee touch of mold, nothing terrible.
Thanks Gerrit!

Hey mark6699331, looks like Gerritt hasn't been checking this board.
Pretty positive Biddy has nothing to do w/ Early Bird.
Biddy Early was a ninteenth century healing woman in Ireland. Don't really know the story about the name being applied to the strain tho.
From what I've read, Biddy is a Early Skunk mother (Skunk #1 x Early Pearl). The father of Biddy Early is Warlock (Skunk x Afghan).
Nice article here: [IMG]Biddy Early
Cheers!
