When to place deep chunk outdoors.
My deep chunk seedlings are about a foot tall. I have taken cloned from them that have not rooted yet but will and they are all being grown under 24 hrs of light. I want the plants to get as large as possible yet still finish by mid to late september because the sun is still strong and there is no risk of mold before then since the dc seems very adapted to an arid climate. The shortest night of the year is coming up and is about 9 hrs 15 min. I also didn't know I'd the chunk would flower as soon as I put it out if started from seed. I am fairly certain the cuttings will though. So my question is when would you recommend putting them out? Also if the plants are placed out when the nights are shorter will they flower for a longer period? They are currently in 64 oz double big gulp cups for deep rooting but will be transplanted to 5 gallon grow bags so I can move selected plants to isolated spots for breeding purposes.

zamalito, where ya at? tropics, mexico, us, canada? longest day of the year commin up is like us here, western US. 7200 ft, and id get the DC out as soon as possible. the more veg time under the sun, the better off your gonna be at harvest. a 1ft plant might get to 6 ft at finish.

I'm at about 34 N in the lower (lower in both altitude and latitude) appalachian where like I said the shortest night of the year is about 9 hrs 15 min not counting ambient sunlight that's around after sunset. I am gonna place them at about 700-800 ft above sea level. The main reason they haven't been put out yet was that I thought I read that the dc's flower when placed outside. Since they're so fast they probably will from clone if they aren't acclimated to a longer night. They haven't shown sex on the preflowers yet. Which is suprising because even my equatorial sativas show sex way before 1 ft tall. I don't mind though because they'll be I 5 gallon bags (at least at first) and I'l be able to move the males to an isolated area because I'm definitely using their pollen. So if the males don't flower as soon as they're placed outside when do you think they'll be ready? Also raco said the tom hill dc's weren't very mold resistant but what about mold resistance on the hill temple deep chunks? Is it any better?

That's excellent. What about high temperatures? Low temps I don't think will be a problem just heat and humidity. I can place them in full sun but most of my indicas this year have been getting a little limp and the leaves start to sweat even with a couple weeks to acclimate and plenty of root space and water. I guess I'm just used to my indicas being dutch and canadian outdoor strains that even with strains like some of the kcbrains that are supposed to be huge clones just aren't practical and start to flower as soon as they're placed outside and yield 2-3 oz. Instead of being the 12 foot bush they say I'm forunate enough to have an outdoor area where I can grow 12 ft sativas in full all day sun and have them fit into the terrain so well that they're practically invisible so I feel like I'm not being appreciative unless I go big. Though the deep chunk is early it must have a long dark cycle requirement to flower. Because of it's density it'll be perfect if it harvests in september. There really seems to be a shortage of strains that are acclimated to the light cycle of the southern us. If the deep chunk goes like this it will be the only one I've found. Durbans and swazis come pretty close to my light cycle though.

Hola raco, mi hermano. Como eres? Espero que estes haciendo bien. Las photografias son muy hermosas.
Diego, hopefully raco will chime in but I believe his line is one he's inbred from Tom Hill's. Last edited by zamalito; 06-14-2006 at 09:03 PM.. |
