Im sorry but I think us europeans take/get most of the jobs here (in EU) so it wont be easy for americans nowadays to live and work here but I dunno, and the first thing you need to know is that the place is called Amsterdam, not damn
.

The first thing that an American must do to get a work permit legaly is prove that they have need skills. Thre is a site i belive called the undutchables that helps place non dutch work staff inthe profesional field. I believe that they don't even staff Americans just non Dutch EU members. It your best bet to get a Microsoft cerification then start appling online directly with companies. Don't forget to speak at least another lanuage. Good Luck!!!!

yeah, it's damn near impossible to just 'get a job' in holland as a foreigner... someone outside the E.U. that is. your best bet would be to look into finding american companies that are based in and or around amsterdam. they can make all the arrangments that you need.
and amsterdam as a city is an INCREDIBLY expensive place to live. probobly second only to London in Europe. you can pay well over 1000 euros a month for a little shoebox apartment in the center. or 800 for a shoebox in ghetto 'ethnic' suburb... or 2500-3000 a month for a full sized canal house... but that wouldn't even be a very nice one... the only way dutch people can afford it is because they recieve govt. subsidies for their housing and whatnot... anyway, it's a really hard city to live and work in for someone outside of the E.U.

microsoft certifications are not hard to get. i would suggest that if you are going to go for those certifications that you also get the cisco and comptia certifications. thats if you are good at networking.
