How far away from main panel....?

How far can I run a line that will handle 50amps to run my light controller? Its about 40-50ft away from the room?

You shouldn't have much voltage drop at 50'. 6 awg wire rates for a 50 amp 2 pole circuit.

Anytime. If you ever want to figure the voltage drop just Google it and a nice table will show you the drop at different distances. When I did electrical for a living we didn't worry much about runs under 100'. That is kind of arbitrary. Might be better to look it up man.

This is perfect, watch any length over 70-80' away.
