Put plants that are too big for the soil amount and you'll get deficiencies, regardless...
![]() Back to your veg question - veg time in final pot depends on many factors. If you put a plant that is a just rooted clone and veg it for a week in the bed vs a plant that was in a 2 gallon container and has been vegging for a month but is being transplanted into flower and vegged for a week in the bed before flip - it'll be drastically different results. It has it's own learning curve. You learn how your bed performs, when deficiencies start, if they do, how to compensate that with plant size or top feeding, etc... But Sul-Po-Mag is a good thing to have for sure, especially since you say you're already seeing Mg def using only 1/3c dolomite. Also considering it is 22% K it's a great supplementation to kelp, which is otherwise you're primary K source... I'm curious what the 42.5% sulfur will do to things more than anything, with the product you were looking at. Otherwise, it has just slightly more K, +8%, and marginally less Mg, -1%, but it does have +20.5% more sulfur, which for the most part is already being supplemented adequately in the amendment mix coming from the 1/3c gypsum. Now being practical, 2 TBSP isn't much in the grand scheme of things, but when something is 0-0-22, or 0-0-50 it doesn't take much. So, go with the product you were looking at, or if you have the other items available to you, mix your own and use it that way. dank.Frank

Out of interest, the high calcium lime that I obtained is 90% pure calcium carbonate. Basically it is ground up marble rock, of the same quality used for gravestones. I contacted the mine directly and they are very proud of their product. I have aragonite as well but it is expensive.

May I ask then what veg times and container size does dank.frank recommend for this soil mix?

From what I understand, you plan to take rooted clone direct to a 15 gallon, veg for 4wks, and then flower for 8wk?
I don't see how that would be a problem. However, I do think you'd have better results transplanting a plant that has vegged for 4wks under a 400-600w in a 3 gallon, transplanting into the 15 gallon, and then flowering for 8wks. Not 100% what your setup is or exactly what your parameters are for your garden. dank.Frank

I plant 2 plants into the 15 gallon tote they have already vegged 4 weeks: party cups then 1/2 gallon pots. 4 weeks filling out the 15 gallon totes in veg room then flip. As you say the size they reach in veg is crucial, big plants more prone to deficiencies!

So really, you're talking about 7.5 gallons per plant...okay...two per 15 gallon.
Rooted clone ---> veg two weeks in solo cup ---> two weeks in 1/2 gallon ---> 4wks in 15 gallon (7.5) ---> 8wks flower If that is the case, then I'd say not any longer than 2wks veg in the 15 gallon then flip...just guessing, but that's what I'd think to do. It depends on your genes too. A sativa hybrid that is going to stretch 3-5x you don't need the longer veg time to still fill out your space. Also that could be 2wks in a 1/2 gallon under T5 or 2wks in a 1/2 gallon under a 400w MH and you have a big difference in the size of the plant. But if the first week in the 15 gallon it's really just getting settled (if it isn't spent in lumen shock), the 2nd week it should be exploding with growth. 24hr under larger lamps (typical of flowering) for a week will give you impressive growth. Probably more than you expect. But ultimately, 7.5 gallons per plant - if you yield in the 5-6oz range per plant, consider that good. dank.Frank

I top dressed some existing plants with that same ratio of amendment and there is a huge improvement already, frost is way up!

When you do get your final mix put together, go ahead and post it all up. I'm curious to see, considering the various adaptations.
