light requirements for producing seeds

How much light is needed to produce quality seeds? I'd like to preserve some of the genetics of strains that I have growing. Does anyone know if viable seed can be produced under florescent light? I took down my HID lighting setup to downsize, and was hoping to produce seed under fluorescents and wanted to get people's feedback as to whether this is even possible.

Thanks in advance for any feedback you can provide.

Stick to the 12x12, and as you are after seeds their is no real hurry to harvest, the longer the better, I do this often, and always leave the seeded plants last to harvest, maybe go an extra 3-4 weeks, under flouros.
I germ/veg under T8's, going 18/6, then late veg and bud outdoors, and prefer the sun to complete the seeds, it might be the UV, but they just look better ...lol more brown, less green

If the plants are healthy and happy under the florescent lights they will make seeds.
I pollinated a branch on each of the plants I have going now about 4 weeks ago while they were under 12/12 (HID) and most seeds are now ready although some of the plants themselves are not.

if it's enough light to continue the plants growing/flowering, then it's enough to make seeds.

I’ve made a lot of seeds under fluoros (not cfl’s). I agree with vostok, give them some extra time to make sure they mature.

i'm using 6 T8's (6500K) x 2 (two levels) so I am hoping that will be enough. The plants are doing great in veg under it, just had read that they need a lot of light to produce sees (read it on one of the discussion threads on another site). My HPS/MH set up was running up the electric bills, especially with the need for air conditioning to keep temps under control. i've got 3 JTRs (two female, one male), one of the females has some kind of recessive traits, looks like it has a perpetual magnesium deficiency, but produces that most incredible smell. Thinking about breeding the male to both females, as well as reversing the sex of the females and selfing and crossing the two females. I have some clone only blue dream that I plan to cross to the male and the both reverse sexed females. I'm especially interested in crossing the funky pheno with the great smell with the bluedream, as both are very fragrant and just seems like it would be a really nice cross. I want to do these crosses and preserve the genetics as I may need to shut down for a while and would love to have seedstock of some interesting crosses to grow out. my previous grow produced a bunch of seeds under HPS, I grew skywalker OG which hermied due to stressing it out (was my first grow) and selfed itself and crossed with the clone only bluedream. Grew out one of those seeds last time and it produced some really nice frosty buds with a bluedream like nose to it.

Thanks a lot everyone who posted here, I didn't want to spend months growing them out if they were not likely to produce viable seed.

One last question, how does the bud turn out when growing under fluorescents? Is it any less potent, less dense, etc?

Thanks!

less dense , might take longer to finish. couple more weeks.

hey lr3! it seems like u are ready to get this done..... i just wanted to add in a quick side note. I have pollinated a few times under fluoros with success, but also without...
i have found that with fluoro breeding, u will NOT want to over pollinate.... I have had great success with low levels of controlled pollinations (meaning selected branches getting pollinated as oppose to the entire plant(s)). For example if u just leave your male in the room and/or just dump a ton of pollen on them, they wont finish and u will have lots of immature seeds compared to an HID room or outdoors.... at least in my experience.
good luck and good breeding....

ps. if u are deciding to save seeds, u may aswell save some pollen too!
