heck even small time breeders have no excuse if they expect folks to pay for seed, imho. Unless the seed co offers a steep discount for untested, undocumented creations, then imho they owe it to the customer, if for nothing more than to build and maintain integrity in our little cannabis world ...i guess this industry has been in the gray area for so long, people just accept the fact that you can get ripped off and it's all 'just part of the industry'. Id say most (not all) of those seed co's in Amsterdam and spain are pathetic pieces of this shitstem soon that will be the old way.

They don't do it because the market doesn't demand it.
If you're going to sell untested seed you need to disclose it. If people still want to pay high prices, that's on them. I can't argue against someone getting the highest price the market will pay. I have no problem with selling untested genetics, because the reality is most people don't have the space/time to grow all the seed that would be necessary to truly begin to get a feel for what the seed hold. Then there's the issue of testing different combinations, parents, weather adaptability, finishing time, disease and pest resistance, etc....

fwiw even the "real breeders" here dont post pics and cant even give you the true lineage or even a blurb about the parents they used. When asked repeatedly for months, all we get is condescending replies and the questions brushed off like you are a bother. I think some of the up and coming small time seed makers here have more on the ball and care far more then some of the old timers in the game that ride on reputation. |

^ I agree with that, and I'll go so far as to say that I think the "golden age of breeders" is over. The torch has already been passed, and most of those OG's are now out of gas. They know it too, and the only thing keeping them relevant is the momentum their names still have. That too is wearing off...

Hey Hush, there was a golden age for breeders? I think it hasn't even begun.

Nah, that's why I put it in quotes. What I was insinuating was the era when breeders were freely doing their thing over in the Netherlands, and seed banks were born, and all the now-legendary strains were created.

it wasn't the age that went bad, it was the breeders.

Since there are some not so cryptic references here, I'll have a shot:
It's a simple matter of time, nothing more, nothing less. People that have time to spend online all day posting pictures don't have time to do much of relevance, imnsho. I prefer to have customers post reviews and pics than post a bunch of my own; to me that is what the seeds are worth - what our clients think of them, and what they do with them. I'd rather see what our clients do with our products, than post a bunch of pics under ideal conditions myself. I just think it has more value and integrity to see what actually comes from our products in our client's respective gardens. The highland Mex cross, for example, sat on shelves for a few years before more than 10 packs sold... I said nothing and let the few adventurous explorers have their way with them... and now they are a thing of rarity which people kick themselves for not taking part in sooner. I could be better as far as commercialism, propaganda and advertising goes - but that just isn't me. I try to cater to people who share my beliefs because how I feel about the world is how I choose to operate in it- some people like the McDonalds, facebook and instagram types who need the instant gratification. I don't do those media forms, although well arguably each respectively are better organizations at promoting their brand than I am. Rezdog, for what it is worth, had a background in marketing, and his success can be demonstrated by the dollars he pulled out of many of your wallets (which as a community were substantial) - $25K+ in single days according to those in the know. He's now long gone, as are many who have come and gone since; I'm still where I am, where I was before he ever arrived on the scene. I personally feel ill when salesmen with below average IQ scores try to convince me I need a product, thinking they can put one over on me with fancy pics and draw dollars from my pocket by shmoozing me - I most often just walk out. I would hate to have any part in any of our respected clients feeling such an ill/used feeling - feeling that we are here just for your dollars, rather than to develop a longstanding relationship built on trust, mutual understanding of true quality, and the furtherance of our cause. When you work all day busting your ass and dealing with real life problems, sometime you just want to wind down by reading what's going on in your community, keeping up on the thoughts of the day from your peers. Having to come back to work when you are just trying to decompress can be draining; sometimes one needs to just shut off their brain and recharge so they can make the most of the next day. In all honestly, posting on these forums has become more of a job than anything else, a job I'm truly not very good at- I never was a fan of marketing- my philosophy is of the "build something special and they will come"-type. I could definitely be better at keeping you all drooling with photos, updating my status daily and instagraming photos for the those in need of constant stimulation. I'm not good at those things though, I'm more of a keep quiet and keep your head down and do something truly amazing type of person, rather than a flashy-look at me type, needing to show the word how cool I am for instant gratification. I'm secure in the fact that what we are doing is just so damn badass and never before undertaken, that I don't need any kudos or back-pats from internet anons. You'll all be jaw dropped when the time comes for show and tell, and those of you that supported our dream will be the folks saying "we were in from the beginning"... To those I have personally disappointed, or failed to stand up to the ideal you held in your head, well I'm sorry to have let you down. I hope you measure our efforts by our accomplishments, and not by what glossy photos were taken along the way...
