Thought I'd do a little grow diary on a new strain from Dutch passion called the edge.

Here's the description...

If you’re a fan of strong old-school Skunk varieties with bumper harvests then this is a perfect choice. The Edge is a Sativa dominant (75% Sativa, 25% Indica) variety that delivers heavy harvests of top quality cannabis with a strong Shiva aroma which will remind you of the good old days. THC levels of 17% are typical, this is a powerful variety. The Edge has a Skunk-appearance, but with slightly more stretch.

The longer inter-nodal distance and multi-branching allows for extra large harvests. This variety prefers extra nutrients during vegetative growth and requires 8-9 weeks for flowering indoors, typically reaching up to 1m tall and yielding up to 500g/m². The Edge will also perform Outdoors in mild climates and will finish as early as mid/late September.

The Edge delivers a powerful and uplifting high which transitions into a strong stone. This is a robust variety which performs well even for less experienced growers and will tolerate conditions which are not always ideal. Whichever way you grow The Edge you should get a heavy crop of quality pot.

Only just planted the beans five days ago. Very uniformed germination in under three days. Grown in gold label 60/40 pebbles coco mix using the following supplements atm.

Formulex
House & garden roots excel
Biolink plus bacteria
Plant magic mycorrhizal.
Sterile rainwater.

I will post more info about the flower room and everything when I have my laptop.

Hey again guys,

I have my laptop today so a bit more comfortable typing a little more info.

Grow Room:

1 x T5 4 bar 2ft florescent lighting with 865 supercool tubes.
4" extraction.
Modified Nutriculture GT205 NFT kit to make a small drip system.

Flower room.

2 x lumatek 600w ballasts + Osram plantastar bulbs.
2 x powerplant aerowing air cooled lights on dedicated fan (S&P TD 150/500)
home brew 2m x 1.2 dripper table
1 x full ecotechnics evolution fan speed + co2 controller with analyzer.

Both rooms have been sealed in superquilt http://www.superquilt-insulation.com/ insulation. This contains 19 layers of insulation + three layers of Anti detection foil wrapped in a handy quilt. Fucking excellent stuff but hard to cut

The flower room is completely sealed and all extraction is plumbed in with ridged ducting where possible. Lighting extraction system comes in from outside and goes out the other. The rooms holds it's CO2 for a very long time.

Everything is on it's own power supply with own consumer box with the relay switch and I have a dedicated power radial for lights.

I will get a few more shot's of the rooms when I have everything finished. But for now here are the girls 4 days later with my new addition Afghani Special for KC brains. I hope to find a good strong male for cross breeding but will run the girls through with the edge. Might even cross the edge with the afghani but being two true F1 hybrids might have a few phenotypes to sort through.

Growing media of choice on this one is Gold Label 60/40 coco / pebbles mix. This is an excellent media for dripper coco systems because of it's water / air buffering properties. It's very light and airy but does not dry out too quickly. Not to mention it's very balanced and well buffered and works a treat.

For nutrients I'm using canna coco base nutrients, house & garden root's excel & amino treatment Plant magic granules, hydrogardens biolink+, canna PK 13/14, canna boost accelerator.

Looking forward to getting things moved along now .

Hey guys

Just an update. Made a bit of progress and lots of mess setting up the rest of the room. Plants have just been sprayed with Halo so that's what the brown stain on the leaves is, will wash it off in a few days. Plants are coming along great and also setup the CO2 controller.

Rooms a bit sloppy for me but I'm moving this after this one so not worth putting things up on the walls etc.

I had 9 decent plants and one runt that has been culled. Plants are a little stressed due to me not having time to move them on. These pictures were taken one day after re-potting & placing on the trays. I work a lot of hours and have a busy life hence the drip setup so hard to make progress.

Plant pots are 19ltr Dirt pots but the old style. I find these work excellent for this type of growing by keeping the root system temperature cooler & better regulated and lets the coco breath. Roots grow out of the side and are air pruned to create a lot of lateral growing roots and lots more root tips. This in turn increases the uptake of water & nutrients. Also root pressure is greater under cooler conditions, this increases the pressure in the xylem vessels so that calcium and other plant growth compounds which are carried in the xylem stream are forced out to the leaf tips and into developing buds. Excellent for coco !!

I've also used Plant magic granules when re-potting.

Nutrients are set @ 1.2EC base of 0.0 + 0.4 Cal/ Mag + canna nutrients + little PH +. Also using Amino treatment @ 2ml / 10ltr & Roots Excelurator @ 3ml / 10ltr I find roots exc a lot more cost effective than rhizotonic. It's a fucking rip off !! Plus roots exc is a far better product and I challenge anyone to do the cutting challenge and see the difference. Maybe I will post again and show you

Just a quick update to show you how much they've come on since repoting. Forgot to put the lid back on my res so the EC went up to 1.8 & got a slight burn but rectified this the next day.

CO2 is off already because it had a leak so I'll have to put it away and have a look after I move . CO2 reached 4500PPM !!!

Will be going onto flower day 25 at this rate Topped them yesterday. Will be using bendz to train the plants.

First picture was day 18 and last two was day 19. Can't wait to get these into flower now !!

You don't see many new DP strains until now I suppose. Looks like they in the middle of a clean up of their act and some exciting new beans on the way. Got three smelly ones but saying that after re potting them and giving them some of the extras they all have started to stink.

And yes unfortunately they were feminized. But I have some Afghani special (KC Brains) on the grow for some pollen.

That edge is looking vibrant. ..nice shots..

Just a quick update plants are nearly ready for flowering Just going to give them a hair cut, pull the apart & take some cuttings.

Plants a relatively uniformed with the exception of one that looks like a boy to me but we will see when I turn them. (see pic 7 vs pic 8)

Overall so far The Edge is turning out to be a very fast growing plant that looks like it could be a gem. To see growth rate flick between pic 1 and 2 its 18 hours growth

Flipping them today. Had a few breakages using the bendz and lost 4 main branches :-( rooms a little hot to due to it being summer here.

Also had a little deficiency show on a plant but they say in the description it's a hungry strain so increased the nutrient strength a little again (1.6EC)

Another quick update as this bit is the boring part got a little trip infestation so going to treat them tomorrow with some contact spray. Also I think one of my bulbs is cooked as one side is growing faster than the other.

Bit scatty and rushed cause I'm moving soon. But it will see me through till I get setup again. Planning a pv solar / wind setup for house and a battery array for UPS too offset the cost of my lights and to have a few hours if we have a blackout.

Plants are starting to crown now and are smelling beautiful!! Definitely that old school citrus / coffee / skunk smelling plant I remember I can't wait to smoke this!!

Still have an infestation of thrips that I'm going to smoke bomb and yes I know sodium bulbs should of been in days ago but I've been busy away from the garden.
