High bay/Low Bay fixtures on grow bulbs ???

Hi everyone - I posted this in the "growers forum" but didn't get any responses and thought "Why the FUCK didn't I post in Equipment !?"

So yeah ...

I was wondering if someone with some lighting experience could help me answer something...

A buddy of mine has a family member who works in sales at an electrical company and who can get bulbs, fixtures, hoods and the like for "cost"...

I told him I was interested in prices on 1000w, 600w and 400w HPS bulbs and their corresponding ballasts ...

My buddy got back to me and said that he was told that they only carry up to 400w on bulbs that are "Low Bay" , meaning they are fixtures for a bulb which is closer to the ground ... He said in "high bay" you can get up to 1000w watts but they're meant for installation in 20 ft high ceilings ...

Seeing as I've yet to read about these high/low bay fixtures concerning lights I said "You're sure they're HPS bulbs??" and he said "Yeah High pressure sodium" ... So assuming I AM the one who's lacking in knowledge and there was no miscommunication between my buddy and his pal at the electrical store - when you guys grab lights do you ever come across problems of high or low bay fixtures ??

If so , considering my ceiling is only 8' and i'm going vert with my lights which fixture should I get and If I can't get a low bay would a high bay fixture make a massive difference ??
