Been a couple more weeks, time for another update . 7 of 8 have been transplanted to 1 gal. bags, and moved to the ebb/flow table. The last one will be transplanted later this week.

The Alaskan Thunder Kong (from here on out will be referred to as ATK), seems much more vigorous than the Caliente Kong ("""as CK). Though two of the CK are having some weird issue that kind of reminds me of the mutations found in the blueberry lines, mixed with what looks like the burn marks from spraying with the lights on. Any thoughts on this DUDE? Here's a couple pictures of the damage. The lesser damaged one looked much worst, but has somewhat of grown out of it. The other has just gotten worse over the last two weeks. PH and EC are perfect, verified via slurry test. They have gotten exactly the same treatment as every other seedling (all of the rest are in perfect health, including the ATK's and other 2 CK's). Nothing has been sprayed on them, no pest issues, nothing. Just wondering if this is an unknown X factor, or if it's potentially a genetic trait?

I will say the roots look good on all of them! This was a pretty typical sight during transplant. Even the sickly CK had a nice thick root system.

Im going to go out on a limb here as say it's a sign of
Old school Mexican genetics.. lol

The male came from seed out of pre 1990s Mexican weed found in Southern California... Meaning to me at least, it was never worked beyond a field. From what I have read and found on the subject of
Mexican weed coming into the states, they were using the same strains from the 70-80s up till the beginning of the 90's when they started introducing the Indica hybrid's we have so many of today...
They also moved indoors and moved their mid and top shelf genetics up a notch... But that's another story...

I would say that is a mutant...
A beautiful thing through my eyes...
Much like you will find in BB and the like yet there is no way it's BB..lol

I would think those are possibly holding the genetic make up and flavor profile of some of the most interesting sativas found in mexico before everything went into the blender....

I will never forget the look on the breeders face when I told him I
not only got them to pop but found a male to boot...

It was like(Fkn shit) good for you man! You need to get real now!

Little did I know.... anyways,haha...

Im looking for the plants that look nothing like kong in either fan, structure or smells and will start my work for Old-school smoke from there... Would rather a non mutant thrashed looking plant but the shape of the leaves looks spot on what im after...lol
If they were green and healthy I would be like...
(Fkn shit) good for you man!

Glad to have you along for the ride padre . I haven't visited the garden in two weeks so hopefully all is well. Heading out there this weekend, i'll grab some new pics and do an update. Should have been some appreciable growth

Alright first off, apologies are due to the D.U.D.E. I haven't been very good about updates thus far, and for that I'm sorry bro. That said I hadn't visited the grow in almost two weeks prior to a couple days ago. The proverbial world ended at work, and shit has been a lil crazy to say the least. Back to this garden........ Upon my last visit I walked into the room greeted by a terrible stench of death, and some pretty sad looking plants. Upon investigation I found that a mouse had chewed his way through the wall, then somehow managed to crawl up the side of my 150 gal. res, fall in and drown. Then as he rotted that water was being fed to the seeds on the table above. This has caused a lovely bout of root rot to hit a most/all of the plants. My initial instinct was to destroy the whole crop......... Fortunately for those of you reading this, cooler heads prevailed, and I decided to treat the plants instead. After draining the res I scrubbed and sterilized the res and table, treated all plants with a solution containing 10ml per gal. food grade peroxide. I'll check them in a couple days, and depending on how they look, I'll either do another round of peroxide, and/or follow up with a strong dose (2-3ml per gal.) of roots excel. On to the pics, and some pheno type observations.

First up are the ATK's. I notice two distinct pheno types. The taller ones pictured below, these appear very similar in structure to the C. Kongs. Influence from the daddy maybe?

The second pheno is extremely short with compact node spacing. Think typical pure indica growth patterns and veg speed.

I killed the two kongs that were exhibiting weird growth. They just seemed to be getting worse in spite of having perfect EC and PH. They weren't showing much vigor compared to the rest either so they had to go, no time for weak plants in D's garden. The other three are all doing well considering the mouse water. No signs of abnormal growth on any of them.

These two look almost identical structurally.

This one looks similar to the others with less branching, guessing it's a male.

Mommy was the same with different daddy's,
CK daddy had strong Afghani and ATK daddy has strong BB...
Possibly making them similar looking yet the head and taste profiles would differ quite a bit...

That would be daddy ATF leaner...

Who could blame you...lol
It does not sound like the Ducksfoot pheno as they seem
to have much vigor thus far.

Were they the Caliente Kong ? Id bet...lol

A side note for things to come...
My AT Kong went through a wicked good fruity stage Mid Cure (1st week in jar) and has over the last 3-4 weeks changed to a mild fruity vanilla with just a hint of woody/spice.... Great nose but man that fruity loops would have been nice to keep.... Ive never smelt anything like it and hope yours stays...

I think I lost my with not burping the jars enough week 2-3...Doh...

Excellent update brother,D...

Just a quick update to report all 5 ATK's, and 1 CK are confirmed females Oh and they're growing like crazy again. All of the taller ones from last week had grown into the lights. As I don't have any flower space open for a couple more weeks I decided to viciously top everything to even out the canopy on my veg table. All plants are now around 12" tall with tons of tops

I'll admit doing the test thread had a bit of influence on keeping them . Though it wasn't just your seeds that were spared, so maybe the other breeders should feel lucky too

Mommy was the same with different daddy's,

Good to know. Looking forward to seeing what comes out of them after a good cure .

That would be daddy ATF leaner...

Yup both CK. The damage looked just the discoloration the chem line is infamous for, mixed with the leaf crinkle DJ's shorts blueberry is known for. I will say the rest of the CK are exhibiting some excellent vigor. Second fastest growth among this seed selection. Only being out grown by house of love's blue dream, but that cross is obviously leaning heavy on the haze side of things, and it's really not fair to compare any plants growth to a haze

A side note for things to come...

Alrighty, bet some of you guys thought I forgot/abandoned this thread. Well you'd be WRONG . Just hasn't been anything interesting happening for a bit. The plants caught another case of rot due to me stopping treatment a bit too soon. I got that all cleared up, and finally started flower last week. All the seeds were severely topped twice during veg to allow their damaged root systems to catch back up to the foliage above ground. I also trimmed up the backsides a couple days before placing them in the rack room for flower.

Thoughts/observations thus far:
1. Judging purely by what I seen in veg, ATK seems much more likely to produce a keeper (better root and shoot vigor, stronger branches, less leaf, much more tolerant/resistant to rot, and ph/EC swings). Granted my sample size is pretty small so all of this should be taken with a grain of salt, but collectively this information should be valuable for D.U.D.E.

2. If seeking qualities of the original mother with improved mass market characteristics, ATK would be where I'd focus my attention.

3. CK is showing a bit more sativa influence than the ATK (long thin leaves, wide node spacing, smaller root ball relative to plant size). Reminds me in some ways of a few Mexican sativas I have grown, in particular the males I found.

4. All the CK males smelled primarily of sandalwood and incense, reminiscent of a couple Mexican lines I've grown. The ATK males all had more of a sour, skunky, afghan smell. One of them had an added fruity sweetness that was very nice.

At any rate here they are as of yesterday.

Caliente Kongs:

Here's a structure shot from a couple weeks ago. I had one for the ATK's also, but deleted it on accident.

continued......
