Smile PRed and American Sativas - 2014 - OD Grow

Hi all,

This past year I really "screwed the pooch", pardon my French. Wifey insisted on cleaning and "organizing" the garage and while I grabbed a quick bite of lunch my helper, unknowingly tossed my entire seed stock. It didn't even dawn on me until the next week I heard the sound of the garbage truck and something clicked. I raced to the garage, no seeds, I ran outside... Truck long gone and in LA, who the hell knows where they go.

So if you live near LA and if you want some GREAT old line sativas find the biggest garbage dump you can and you might get very very lucky! LOL. Honestly, I have to joke about it otherwise it makes me sick to think of the work that was lost..... So I am starting over this year and thought I would begin a thread here and may run concurrently on IC Mag so I can post pics.

Thank you to those members who were kind enough to help me and for those who have always been supportive during my years here and in other clubs. I look forward to doing it better this time!!

First up are some seeds PReds from a good friend here. I need to post them on IC mag so I can link to them here so please excuse me for now.

I am actually excited to begin again and hopefully will find the PRed I have been searching for.

Mahalo - GG

PS - Can anyone help me with how this uploading photos works here? Asks me for a link. So I try that and it takes me to my Gallery which seems to be in maintenance mode.

You need 50 posts before you can upload or PM as I recall. For sure 50 to PM.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I'd be crushed if I lost all my beans.

Best of luck in your search

Smile IBL vs Landrace

I would love to hear from any of the breeders if they somehow distinguish IBL from Landrace.

I am not a geneticist by any means but would love to discuss this as it pertains to preservation. I see what I do as trying to make seeds that keep as much of the genetics intact as possible. I do not want to select for maturation or other traits until I am much further down the road.

I would love to hear from the experts how their various PReds and American Sativas (Central, South and Mexican) showed in F2...Fx generations.

As for me, I just want to preserve and learn and keep the gene pool alive. MJ adapts to its environment so I wonder how much of our method of growing actually changes the plant. The soil we use, the ferts, the way we light it, the number of hours of light, humidity.

Should we be doing our best to mimic the origin if we want to get the same results? Should we expect an equatorial sativa to grow under floros in a basement in Canada the same as it grows outdoors on an island off the coast of Panama or wherever? These IBLs or Landraces whichever you want to call them have adapted themselves over hundred of years to certain conditions. How will change affect them?

I think I read somewhere that cannabis when it adapts itself becomes more like ruderalis and this would certainly explain why some of the results may not match up with originals. But then I see these awesome growers here jah, el chischas, kaiki, wally it goes on forever getting phenomenal results indoors and out.

I am rambling now, so will stop but hope to hear from anyone interested in this. These threads will provide useful info for people for a long time to come.

Like as you said, I guess it will take them lots of time too. to adapt again so no problem imho. the less selection you do the better.

I'm in here. appreciate your ideas

Hi GG!

Landrace by definition means a variety adapted to given conditions through open pollination. There's always variation within a landrace gene pool.

Adaptation in cannabis is fast, in only 4 generations can you see the plant changing to fit the new environmental demands.

Welcome Hmong, good to see you here!

Thule: I agree that cannabis adapts quickly, and somewhere I think I read that the adaptation mechanism is towards Ruderalis. I want to try to find the article.

So far I have almost 100% germ rate on my first batch and still waiting to see on the second. There was a Tricot seedling in the first batch which is exciting, but not sure what if anything it means. Will watch that one carefully and see.

Cheers!
GG

Smile 4-13 Update

Hi all,

A little update, I have so far 3 groups of PRed from diff sources:

Group 1 - I think may be related to ACE panama not completely sure.

Group 2 - Is from a brother (friend) who is as much into preservation.
May be my original PRed from panama.

Group 3 - 1974 PRed - This was one I worked with long ago and was originally gifted from a guy at Overgrow.com named Bushman who supposedly found it in his dads footlocker, he was a Merchant Marine.

I have been growing in Coco Coir this year. Its awesome stuff and I would highly recommend it, plants LOVE it and it!

Hopefully the pics will work.

Peace
GG

Sorry for poor quality pics and nothing much more boring than watching seedlings. But this post is more for my records and watching them grow. The second batch is more like what I remember the Panama Plant I received from Panama 10 years ago, it started with fatter leaves then got thin as it grew.
