Trouble with germing Reclining Buddha
Hi Soma,
I tried emailing you at the email addie on your Web site about 10 days ago but never heard back from anyone, so I thought I'd tried posting it here. After a recent trip to Amsterdam, where I made it my goal to sample as many high-end medical varieties as I could in order to choose two new plants for my own personal grow program, I am happy to say that one of the two "winners" I chose was your Reclining Buddha. I am a medical user (I have a kind of brain tumor that caused all over muscle, bone and joint wasting, causing constant chronic pain, and nausea and lack of appetite, and pot is the only thing that helps, thank god!), and found that the Reclining Buddha was a great all over pain reliever, while delivering a very "up," clear and definitely cheerful mental high. And the taste was second to none! It's a wonderful breed, one of the best I've ever tried. I couldn't wait to get home and order my own seeds! However, I'm writing, because I am having problems getting my new Reclining Buddha seeds to germinate. I started out with two seeds, one rather large and thick, the other kind of small and whitish. The small one germinated beautifully within two days, is now planted, and after two weeks is now a happy rapidly growing little seedling. But the other seed refused to germinate. I tried two more seeds, neither of them are germing either. I am using a standard germination method that typically delivers 100% germination with good seeds. First of all, I take a real cloth, soak it in boiling water with a bit of bleach to make sure it's sterile, then put the seed in the wet cloth, put the wet cloth into a sealed baggie, which I store on top of the warm fridge. At the same time I was germing the Reclining Buddha I was also germing some G13 x Hash Plant (the other winner of my own personal little contest) and both the G13s germed beautifully using this method within the same time frame as the first RB seed, and are also now two beautiful little seedlings. So I thought maybe I had one bad Buddha seed, so tried another, smaller, less thick RB seed out of the pack. In the meantime, I tried using some scarification techniques on the first RB seed that wasn't germing, thinking maybe it was too thick and needed some help to break through. Well, the third seed has been going for two weeks now now and also won't germ. So I tried a fourth seed, again, no action at all. The two latest ones at least split, but no sign of a root coming out, and no sign of any change after the initial split. And there's been no action at all on the seed I scarified, which has been soaking now for about two weeks--I think it's pretty much of a lost cause. So my point is, for my $80 for 10 seeds, three of the four thus far have not germinated. Is this the germination rate you'd expect for these seeds? Or do you have any suggestions for some alternate germ techniques that work better for RB? My next plan is to try the soaking in water technique which I've never tried before because the warm clean cloth trick is usually a 100% success rate. I"m hoping there's just some germ trick or something to the RB seeds that I'm missing and that you can help me figure out. I'm reluctant to waste a 5th seed until I know if there's some advice you have, but at the same time I need to get it going because I need all of these seedlings to be approximately the same age so they can all develop simultaneously. Any advice, assistance, etc. you could offer would be most appreciated. And thanks for coming up with such a great variety, I know how much I enjoyed sampling it in Amsterdam, can't wait to turn it into a cornerstone of my own growing program! Thanks! RTM |

I dont know what it is i am a huge supporter of somas genetics and i have have 2 packs one Lavender and one Kahuna with Kahuna i got 1/10 germinated and with Lavender so far 2/5 which is terrible i have had bagseed seeds germ better. So Soma needs to look into it.
edit ; ok i lied i only got 2/8 from Lavender and i have been using a small glass of distilled water with a heating mat so i just wasted 160$ for 3 males. PHENOMENAL! Last edited by GlaZed420; 01-05-2007 at 08:12 AM.. |
