I have some questions about mj breeding
To make a stable cross all I need to do is take two specimens, make seeds, then continually cross the offspring with the original pair?
Or do I take a specific set, and keep crossing it with another plant until all seeds are stable I think it goes first generation = f1 (first generation of seeds, unstable) second gen = f2 (an offspring of a parent crossed with a specimen that results in uniform seed, stable) I don't know what F3 is, maybe offspring that is extremely uniform? |

F1 is the first generations, usually very stable(uniform), mostly dominant traits expressed.
In the F2 there is the least uniformity usually, in the f2 the recessive traits start to show up so youll get a lot of variation which could be great if you're looking for that one pheno to make a mother from or to breed with, but if you grow them just for the weed all together it is less handy(more variation so more different sized plants, different heights etc so not all plants get equal chances with the lights at a certain height etc.) If you select in the F2 the parents for the F3 you'll be making it more stable again, but it will take untill the F5-F6 before you get a reasonable stable strain(unless you make it a clone-only strain) As you go through the generations, F3, F4, F5, etc. the plant becomes more inbred and yields less. It can then be back-crossed with an F1, for example to put 'fresh' genes back into the next generation making it more productive. ![]() That's the reason why it takes generations to cross ruderalis/ auto strain with a photoperiod strain. Takes a while, but worth the effort. That's our gig. By you crossing your own strains....awesome!!

Smart fella aridbud
so in terms of getting a stable product, f1s r the best. Easiest as well. Dont get me wrong f2 hunting to backcross and so on to further a line is super cool as well. Knowledge is power. What r most breeders doing these days? Seems to me most r doing the f1 thing. Few r diing the nitty gritty f9...c99 being a good example. Im sure djs lines r worked further than c99 was. Love me some blueberry peace

FWIW most hyrbids sold these days are not true F1's.
"The offspring of distinctly different parental types produce a new, uniform variety with specific characteristics from either or both parents." If you're mish-mashing genetically similar strains those are not true F1's. |

What up snyper? knew u couldnt stay away from here
![]() Yeah from reading sam the skunkmans posts. He says most strains r hybrids or polys. I think there r enough breeders doing their thing properly. Djs idea- Think one real important thing when crossing is geneticly different parents which equal amazing vigour. Saw this with my own eyes with an accidental hermie open pollenation. Never saw vigour like that before from the offspring. Although offspring have hermie tendancies so im gonna b tossing those. Smoke was amazing tho... Gonna do a small proj for fun to try and work a lemon line. Super lemon og male, and either bodhi lemon zinger or ggg lemon puff female. Slog male is beyond stinky... prob put some plants outdoors to have sex... |
