Merry Christmas to all, if that's what you do. Christmas eve right now for me on the western US. We should have snow on the ground in the morning, raining now.
My Catnip SSH X Chemdog IBL Girl and Boy are doing well, thanks again to dr.penthotal and dank.frank for giving me sound advice. She got some brown dead spots on some of the larger leaves, a sign that they got too much of something. Maybe since I trimmed them back so much it lightened her need for ferts, and since I started using RO water from a machine in town, set to 6.5 PH, suddenly it was much easier for her to utilize anything available, causing some burn. I cut off the affected leaves and she seems to be doing fine now. He never got bothered much by anything. He has dark green leaves that are larger than her light green small thin leaves. Both plants are being LST'ed to even out the canopy in my 3X3ish cabinet shared with 2 Sour Bubble girls. Tonight I cut him back to just the main 2 tops, he was busting nut as took him out of the cab to be photoed, just three weeks of 12-12 and he is going off. His sister is far from ready for pollen, I hope he has some staying power and produces pollen later when she is more mature. You can see how much I cut him back in the cab shot. She seemed to take off slow, but I think it was due to too low of temps, I have since added a small space heater outside the cab so warmer air will be drawn in. I still am only making 69* or 70* F with the light on. |

Happy New Year, All.
A short update for any lurkers out there. The Catnip seeds SSH X ChemDog IBL's seem to be doing great, as do the Sour Bubbles. The Catnips have been in 12-12 for 4 weeks tonight, New Years Eve. I have cut him way back and he still cranks out balls and blasts pollen into the cabinet. I have seen quite a few cannabis male pics on this site and he puts out flowers more than many. I literally cut off 95% of his flowers. I can only imagine if I had let him grow out natural, what a pollen fest it would have been. She was LST'ed a little more tonight before pics. She has resin stalks on her thick stems. She smells of Lemons when touched, strong too, but more like Lemon Meringue Pie scent, not lemon peel. She seems full on sativa to me, SSH all the way, yet I have only site learned knowledge to go by. I say he leans to ChemDog IBL, looking at his leaves and by how aggressive he has been, I think as his growth slows, whenever that is, that I will cut his tops off into a ball jar and save some of his essence, in case I want her to receive some pollen later in her flowering, or any other girls that I grow in the near future. Heck, he could be a non producer 'Head wise' in the high, but he is a top athlete in other ways so I will give him the benefit of the doubt, ya he's a stud. I apologize for the iPad pics taken through my HPS safety glasses. It will be difficult to move them out of the cab for pics from here on out, but we will see about that. I think all 4 of these plants are awesome. I hope you lurkers, like them too. Positive thoughts for the new year! |

Cool... plants look health and happy.
And really wanting to reproduce themselves.... Are you doing a seed run? You're going to have a lot of seeds already...even with only one male flower opened... I would move that male away immediatly if you want to smoke buds. :-) Sshchem is going to stretch a bit, hazy dominant this one...I like the lemon terpene.. Keep on showing updates, it's going to be a promising run... Peace Dr.P

Here it is, she is more of an it, Most of the calyxes are bursting forth with male nanners. A female flower with pistils, then the calyx swells and out pops a nanner cluster. I have yet to see anything that looks like the nanners will spill any pollen. I thought that if a plant hermied it grew a normal male flower, but maybe I just never really knew. I had hoped to get seeds from her/it, and there may be some calyxes that hold seeds. She smells like lemon pledge furniture cleaner and has quite a lot of trichomes, even on the stems. I am trying to let her live long enough to let the seeds mature if there are any. I will probably have to take her out though, since her brother also pollinated the 2 Sour Bubbles in the cabinet, I don't want any new pollen flying in there. I may get some bubble type bags to make some ice hash out of her. I am really interested in the high this plant will put out. I fully understand the nature of the cross of the seed I grew, and expect any of the others in the pack to make a flippin great plant. But she is kinda a he, and I wont wait much longer to remove her. I did clone her and her brother, I want to keep him as a dwarf father and stay small in veg, in case I find a fun girl to get with him. The Sour Bubbles are 2 1/2 weeks from being done or close to it. They seem to have many seeds from the SSH X Chem male, and they seem to be finishing in their calyxes. I cloned them also. My one plant is not representing the potential of this cross, and I will try again with new seeds, and be sure to post up in the Catnip zone when I do.

Sorry to see the he/she...had high hopes to hear about the smoke! The plant looks to have good vigor. Any ideas other than genetics contributing to the "herming"? I have 2 SD x Chems two weeks in flower...all good so far.

Thanks for your comment jackspratt61, I hope your plants kick ass.
I can't say what may have led it to happen, I took late clones of her and they are almost done with reveg and and I am going to let one, maybe two, flower until I see male parts, but no male in the room this time. I get the feeling that pollinating her last run, will be a different outcome than this next try in an all girl space, maybe not, it's all a grow experiment with me. I got some 5 gallon bubble hash type bags the other day and I will make whatever ice water hash I can out of the culled plant. It had good trich coverage even on larger branches. I know its high won't be of mature THC but I shall check it out. It was such a hazy structured plant that it could smoke strong, I wont give up yet till these two clones show what they have. I have the rest of the pack to try also, sooner or later. The sour bubbles are fully seeded with SSH X CD IBL spunk. Those two girls look so much alike I can only tell them apart by a twist tie on one of the fabric pots. Their clones will flower with the SSH X CD girls too. As the reveged clones go into flower I will decide on what seeds to plant next. I have a lot of faith in the potential of these SSH X CD IBL to make something wonderful, but know full well how incredibly variable every plant can be. Somewhat of a treasure hunt. I am more upset with not getting 2nd generation seeds from her, than the fact that her calyxes popped open with male flowers inside. There could be some seed, but I don't think so, I will find out when I cut her up for the bubble bags. That will be a first for me also, as were all the clones I took (16 for 16 were successful). I will keep the male as a bonsai type father as I learned on this site years ago. Hell of a lot easier doing this in the winter than in the summer. Look for an update later when I have something to show. Peace |
