Very nice, very nice!:-)
Strong and healthy compact bushes. Like the root vigour too. Leaves appear to be on the chem side, but in hybrid plants sometimes leaves look more indica at the beginning, fading into sativas while flowering progresses. They look fine also in comparison to the sour bubble in the front row. Any smells already? Good job. :-) Keep updates coming. Tnx Dr.P

I am sad to say that all three are males. I am bummed about it. That's the story of my life. Shit.
I know that I screwed up their first few weeks by not having calibrated my PH meter. So I was correcting my PH from a 10.0ish to a 6.5, I thought. In reality my starting PH was 8.2ish and only needed 1.5 ml of PH down, I had been using around 4 ml of PH down, so I was surely locking out the nutrients that need to be at 6.5 PH or higher. Also my tap water is very hard. I am going to try RO water next round I think, I will use vending machine water at $1.50 for 5 gallons. I tend to believe that their gender is not etched in stone until a few weeks in from seed. and a mistake like I made could have sent them to be male. Or maybe they were just males. Either way I am sorry to let down anyone watching and waiting. Of the sour bubble grow buddies, only one of them is female, so I went 1 for 6 girls, I know I can do better, I intend to wet some more Catnip seeds next up when I free up my HPS room for my lone sour bubble female. I have Orange Oblivion, Chocolorange, and more SSH X Chemdog IBL. One of the males stinks pretty rank when bumped, like contaminated soil at a diesel engine repair shop. I don't have the space or experience behind me to keep him, I need to focus on completing grows I can smoke first. Unless something changes this will be their last pics, but I hope to be back with some more Catnip soon. Thanks for the interest, sorry for the let down. #1 #2 #3 |

One is indeed a female! I never saw any hairs when they were preflowering. I had space in my flower cabinet under my 600 HPS to prove their manhood, so I stuck them in there a week ago and low and behold a girl showed up. I am still certain that the other two are males but I have yet to cull them. One of the males smells more intense than the other male or the female and I am on the fence about killing it off. If I let him grow out all stinky the worst that could happen is I get a seeded sister SSH X CD IBL, and a seeded BOG sour bubble as I only have those two girls going into flower, (the sour bubbles are still in veg they are slow). I have a Bodhi Solo's Stash in the flower cabinet that is at 10 weeks of 12-12 that is to be chopped by this weekend. Then I will move the sour bubbles in with the Catnips so they can prove themselves also. I only grow for myself so if I grow seeded plants I am the only person that will have to deal with seeds, and I would love to have some F2's of this rare cross from Catnip. If he seeds up the sour bubble it should be no big deal, could be a fun cross, plus getting new sour bubble seeds is pretty easy compared to SSH X CD IBL which is irreplaceable. Some of the best highs I ever had came from seeded buds back in the late 70s and early 80s, so I don't necessarily agree with the notion that seeded weed doesn't get you as high as sensemilla (guess I just dated myself, oops, ya I'm in my 50s). I am still chasing those highs. Enough bla bla bla. I will get some pics soon after I chop the Solo's Stash and cull at least 1 of the male Catnips. Wish me luck, I have been smoking pot for 37 years but only started growing this year. (Was lurking at overgrow its last couple years and this site since it began, on my third username here.) I have much to learn, what a fun hobby.

I have a problem with the SSH X CD IBLs that is clearly coming on strong, the 2 males show it worse than the girl. All 3 of them have the effect though. I think maybe some CAL-MAG will be the answer but cannot get any for a few days, (grow shop is an hour away, and I need to warrant my going that way with other things). I have also had a hard time keeping the cab in the 70*s temp wise seems to be upper 60*s at the warmest, go figure after I struggled to keep cool in the summer. I decided my water is too hard and causing a salt issue so I grabbed one of my 5gal jugs from a vending machine that vends filtered RO water and that may help in time, I think my soil has everything available but I just need to get my shit right so the plants can absorb what they need. I think I experienced un-buffered water when trying to set the PH, non consistent meter readings swinging all over. Some half strength Bloom ferts set it strait for a stable reading. I am still watering all 3 even though I know 2 are males. I need the experience fixing this problem, may still keep the bushy male that is in front and this closeup(he smells good). The female is in the back right and the male in the back left has suffered the most from the problem but he is getting culled for sure. The sour bubbles coming in don't have the issue (yet) and all plants have used the same water and soils. Any other thoughts are welcome. Better pics to come after the Solo's Stash comes down this weekend. I am so glad to be able to show some buds grow of this rare Catnip cross, I hope I can do it justice and honor dr.penthotals passion.
#2 Some rare rain is here tonight, I hope this horrid drought will end in the near future, so little rain for so many years. It's a shame. |

My friend...
Don't worry! I'm so happy to read about your female showing her sex... I like those late comers. Ssh showed sex very late into flowering. But those beauties you have are showing intense chem traits. Fat big leaves, dark colours and that typical leaves blades trait 'to go all the same direction outward'... Difficult to explain, but it is all in there. These yellow stains? Don't worry, my friend, it's not your fault! This is a mutation that sometimes shows up during early flowering on fanleaves. I have a couple of picts from one of the aunts of your plants. It's just not so nice to see, but it doesn't affect growth or budding in any way. It's a random thing, sometimes pops up. Never noticed any connections with nutes/soil/air/light problems. It's a trait inside chem. I monitored this on my plants and new seeds. Never reported any. Here's some picts Does it look the same thing? On one leaf seems heavier and getting the whole leaf... Don't loose hopes, it's goin to be a good one. That solo's stash looks promising too. Any question I'm here. Peace Dr.P

That will go away with a higher application of Magnesium...
NOT Ca/Mag...just Mg. Take 1/4 tsp of epsom salts and mix that with 1 gallon of water. Use that for three consecutive waterings and that discoloration will go away... It's a common thing with plants based on the Chem D clone. ![]() Watching this thread with interest....just lurking. ![]() dank.Frank

Thank you so much for your help dr.penthotal, I was scouring the web for a match to the problem, but had no luck. Your pics do match my plants, and if you look hard you can see it in #1 way back when they got up potted, but I tried to slip it by you guys by turning them to their best side.haha
I am thinking I will clone the smelly male and my girl even though they are in flower, I have yet to get any clone rooted. I did try half assed twice on my first grow of Moscas tsi fly, and was not successful. I have some rapid rooters and a domed tray. I may not be able to get any clone gel or powder, But many folks don't use anything and swear by it. I will try to get some but I will not be alone for a couple days and that will be a tough purchase while I am with others. I don't need my smelly male to be very big at all so I may cut him WAY back, a little pollen goes a long way right? Do you know any tricks on getting stable PH readings on RO water that is not having ferts added. I had a struggle with that yesterday. I know that I am way too new of a grower to be making seeds, but I am jumping in with both feet. I have a good hunch about this male. Thanks again and know that I am trying hard to keep these plants on track. Wow dank.frank, I am honored to have a reply by you, you are one of my site heroes, I consider your posts growing gospel. I will try that remedy soon. I need to get some epsom salt but I have to leave for 2 days to dog sit some pooches before I can get to the store and back. Then it's on. Give Phillthy my best wishes. |

Tonight I made a move and chopped the Solo's Stash and 1 male SSH X CD IBL, these 2 are no more.
I apologize for not having better camera skills, and for using an iPad and not a real camera, maybe that will change one day and I will get a modern digital camera. But I still want to show what I have. |

Here is the Catnip Seeds SSH X Chemdog IBL female and male. He is the bushy one, the most aggressive of all 6 vegged plants, she is smaller and more petite. She smells sweet and fresh compared to his more rotten contaminated soil smell. They are 67 days old from the seed pack. Both will get epsom salt treated water tomorrow. They have been under 12-12 lighting for 10 days, and were joined by 3 Sour Bubbles tonight also, 2 of which I think are males and will be culled when I am sure of their gender.
