High incidence of mutants within strains containing GDP
Hey there everyone.
I grew bored of the dutch gene pool a few years ago and started buying more varieties from canadian/US seedbanks which I found offered something a bit different.I had heard good things about GDP so when I saw the ken estes strains start to come onto the market I initially bought kens kush and candyland,a 5 pack of each. The kens kush were all vigourous and fine,in fact I found two keepers which I finally managed to narrow down to one very perfumey tasting beauty which I'll keep for a long time. The candyland I didn't have so much luck with initially as I had one no show and 2 very mutated plants, however I was lucky enough to have one of the normal looking plants be a female which I kept too. I had never had plants so purple in optimum conditions before with a lights off temp of no lower than 20c and I both strains are great so I thought I'd try the GDP itself.Again I bought a 5 pack (which somehow only had 4 seeds in but I felt that was a reseller issue) and once again I have 1 severely mutated plant.I sent ken pics of the plant on facebook as it had no point of new growth,i.e. there were no new shoots between the leaves or at branch unions as well as having a very mutated leaf/leafset but he simply responded he had seen it before, but not in his strains, and that was that.I also sent an email with pictures of packaginga nd plants to the GDP sites email address ken@dimension..etc. but also never got a reply.I am intrigued by the GDP and would like to continue growing it and it's relatives but wondered if this mutant expression is common, and if it is a characteristic of grandaddy purps. (I have only just joined the forum and am unfamiliar with the picture uploading but after I have posted this I'll upload pics to my album and edit the post inserting the pics) |

I just cut mine down if you forum search GDP there are some other reports of mutants I got like 4 in 13 plants https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=274294 phenos are all over the place the mutants just wouldn't grow very fast at all and wouldn't show sex so they got chopped really surprised there aren't more reports like these. Good news is your keepers look very good

thanks for the reply..I actually already read your thread earlier when I posted as it seemed like we were experiencing the same thing.I am pleased with the keepers but honestly I don't know if I can call the CL a true keeper because it wasn't selected from a group of females,I struck lucky on the one I got but I'd love to throw more CL beans down to make a selection but the mutants worry me,without a doubt there are some great phenos to be found within these genetics but I have never had mutant plants quite like these,as you say they grow extremely slowly, and the ones without the 'suicide' growth habit of having no new shooting point are a totally new thing to me.I would usually keep a mutant on simply because I have found some amazing plants that way before, and usually I find that they grow themselves out of the mutancy before too long with the right conditions.
I'm just kind of hoping to get a response from the GDP crew with regards the proportion of mutants reported from GDP crosses and whther it is the GDP causing the mutant issues. |
