Thumbs down State Officials will use Minors in Marijuana-Buying Stings

SEATTLE, WA - State officials will use minors in marijuana-buying stings next year when Washington's new legal pot stores open.

Charged with implementing the new law that allows adults over age 21 to possess an ounce of pot, the state Liquor Control Board already uses minors in "controlled buys" of alcohol at retail stores. The board's enforcement chief said using the same strategy with marijuana makes sense, especially because federal officials want to make sure Washington restricts minors' access to the drug.

The agency also will ask the Legislature to set penalties for minors who attempt to purchase legal pot and those who use or manufacture fake ID cards for that purpose.

Waste of time...

There are going to be so many legal buyers that it'll be worth it for the owners to card. A couple sales to minors is definitely not worth the hassles of getting busted for it. lol

Not saying it won't happen, just saying that it'll be a huge waste of effort for the most part. So tired of "Protecting the Children" jokers.

Keep it Clean!

why isnt this considered taboo....
endangering the life of a child
contributing to the delinquency of a minor
child abuse, and use
waste of tax payers dollars to pay for the guys running these stings...
Article 19: State obligations to protect children against maltreatment and abuse.
Article 33: State obligations to protect children from the illicit use of narcotic and psychotropic drugs.

I see all kind of problems w/ this,....indeed

yeah just look at the coffee shops in the Dam, they check every id at the door, even if you are a grampapy or clearly old enough. they don't want to take any chances on those lucrative coffee shop licenses. so this is probably a big waste of cash. you could find out quickly by watching the place if they are checking id at the door of young customers, but i suppose at that point you'd need to send in some under age buyers to really prove the place was selling to them. hopefully none of them will be that stupid.

I just see it as expected behavior from LEO's, standard enforcement technique carried from alcohol to cannabis.

We'll also see minors using the usual acquisition techniques to get what they want, same as alcohol. That's also expected behavior, but the potential downside is less with cannabis.

Coming from where we've been, taxes, regulation & enforcement are just the price we have to pay for legalization, same as alcohol. It's still infinitely better for almost everybody, particularly the Colorado model which includes medical & personal growing.

Just as I believe in not selling alchohol to minors.....such enforcement would make sense to me. Just hope owners are responsible enough to follow the laws to begin with. Here compliance to alchohol is strickly enforced as I get still carded for beer and I am pushing 50.

part of this... effort is to show control measures in place to the Fed's....
BUT, this kind of child abuse is absurd....

How can U justify using kids, as patsies.... to enforce a rule so "they" cant be influenced by drugs....

yeah thats really going to work....

NOT

Once upon a time, in Amsterdam, you could walk into a Coffeeshop and not have to get past a bouncer first. The first day the Greenhouse put a bouncer at the door, was the last day I tried to patronize that place. I left Amsterdam soon after that. Those days are gone now...

Instead it's big brother watching everyone, frisking everyone, id'ing everyone. How sad for our humanity. There's no trust anymore in this world...

yeah they managed to push the coffee shops into having bouncers to check id's for age. all it took was a couple of busts and closed shops and the rest of the shops realized it was a matter of survival to be sure no underage people get inside. i'm sure they don't have the bouncer due to wanting him. at least not in most places anyway, as it's just added expense. but yeah they get robbed too, so i guess some security etc is indispencable now a days, sadly.

i also hate the idea, but at least they don't frisk or search you, just check your id, so if they are controlled while you are there, they don't get in trouble. like i said for the last 20 years or even 30, the gov has been pushing them and chipping away at their freedoms, reducing the numbers, not issuing new licenses and making harsher rules, till we are where we are today, with fewer coffee shops left then ever and more getting closed down next year due to the ridiculous no school in a certain distance rule that has been newly passed. it's so stupid, as no coffee shop thats left today would risk their license by letting a minor in the shop. so what the fuck should it matter where the shop is as long as not right next to the school i suppose, although even there i don't see the harm. they ain't gonna be getting in so what's the big deal? just more big brother euro-fascist repression.

are they paying these minors? are they then employees of the state? are they also immune from federal prosecution?
