Do all carbon filters work?

Keep in short and simple. Do most carbon filters work? I got this cheap one that came in with my inline. I'm blowing my air out from the roof so I can't really tell if it's doing its job. The room has a low humidity but I'm scared it won't do its job.

The cheaper ones wont last as long.
You will have to stay on top of that.
You can always test by recirculating it in the room, although its not that accurate because the air will pass through the scrubber multiple times instead of just being sucked out... Maybe try dumping it into another room to test it out

as with anything, you pretty much get what you pay for. some of the cheaper ones use odd shaped carbon that doesn't very well and leaves open spaces. I can personally recommend can filters 100%

I have an 8 inch Phresh filter that works great! it came with a pre-filter that I have washed.

You need to get a Phresh filter. They are your best value.

The only trustworthy carbon filters are the ones endorsed by the C.F.A.A. All others are no good and a danger to your safety.

They all work to some degree or another. The biggest issues seem to be not using too much fan & not thinking they'll last longer than they do.

I came back to growing after the passage of A64 last year, so my experience is pretty shallow. Being a tech sort of guy & having some experience with carbon filters in aquariums, I knew a little going in & also knew enough to do some study. That led me to the Phat brand, partially because of the reviews & also because they have an easy chart that differentiates between single pass filtering & recirculated scrubbing-

https://phatfilter.com/what-size-phat-filter-do-i-need/

I use a 4x20 with a 195 cfm fan, figuring some loss of flow from the filter & ducting. Nearly a year later, there's no detectable smell outside near the exhaust. It's lightweight, too, making overhead mounting easy.

Even though it's all 100% Colorado legal, I treat it as an illegal grow, so I'll replace the filter in January, when it's a year old. I don't need rippers, either, and the exhaust is in an area where street access is easy. That filter will go into semi-retirement as a recirculating scrubber in the grow area, taking some of the load off the exhaust filter.

Dunno if it's the best, but it's worked fine so far. Can, Phresh & Mountain Air all have their adherents & advocates, too.
