working with dubi's g/p haze x thai F3s

Thought I'd better have something to show before I tell this time,
with a green haze x thai F3, left; and purple haze x thai F3, right-

Since these are now at F3 and semi-stable I thought we could start
having fun with them-
by beginning work on making F4s,
and by using some of this pollen to make "improved" versions of
some "classics".
Examples of these are a Neville's Haze Mango in re-veg,
and a couple seedlings up of Karma Genetics' Jack-o-Nesia. I'm also
trying to develop green and purple lines of a F13xJohnnyBlaze cross
(which reeks of cedar due to the Highland Oaxacan Gold in it)
I made to eventually inter-mingle with our green and purple haze thais.
I hope to get some of these into the server fund.

Any ideas, suggestions, etc. are welcome. I'm a newbie at this hobby
breeding thing (a mix of home brewing and breeding roses for us retirees ).

Saludos!

Those are some awesome genetics you are working and crossing. Best of luck with the results.

Wish you the best LowFalutin with your haze thai grow and selections

Our haze thais produce great hybrids when they are crossed with faster flowering plants like a few growers have experienced here ... hopefully they are also usefull for your own breeding projects, let me know if you have any doubt during the process. Good luck!

Thanks, dubi.
Any selection guidance would be appreciated. I've got enough GHzT
to work with, but need to do another start of the PHzT to get to
that point with them.

Here are four of the GHzTs, not all germed at the same time.

Stem rub on the tallest (and is tallest overall of the GHzTs)
gives a citrus and light fuel aroma.

more updates to come

Saludos!

Been veggin'

After a nice long veg, and with several plants showing alternating phyllotaxy, I kicked off flowering 4 nights ago.

The plan is to ID a couple of good males and pollen-collect, and put the girls back into veg with an up-potting before final flower.

My grow space is waaay too crowded now, and this first flowering will
help kick off the selection process.

Any advice for GHxT male selection is deeply appreciated!

Saludos

Hi LowFalutin,

I'm glad to know the project is progressing. My favourite green haze thai mother has a very pleasant happy effect and the aroma is refined sweet floral, a kind of aroma that is not typical of oldtimer's haze line or meo thai (usually more woody spicy) but appeared in the Green Haze Thai F2s.

I dont like to select/avoid plants just for the early growing traits unless they are very mutated or completly lack of vigour. You will need to label , flower and smoke each plant to choose the best one or your favourite expression. Please, share with us some pics when they are flowering.

Kind regards, dubi

Thanks for stopping by, dubi.
Your input is much appreciated.
Before I forget- what selection criteria did you use when choosing males?

Update, after 15 nights of flower:
- I now have 8 definite female GHxT, with 3 remaining to be determined.
- 2 PHxT females.
After the GHxT finish sexin' they will all get up-potted and re-vegged.
(they've so far spent their lives in small 6" pots)

I have several male GHxT. I'm planning on selecting two thai-leaning,
and two g.haze-leaning males to up-pot, finish flowering, and harvest/store their pollen.

All green and purp haze females will get a separate branch pollenated from each of the thai and haze-leaning pollen batches.
(two NepalHaze ladies get the same treatment)

I'll only keep the seeds from the most desirable plants, selected post-cure.

That's the plan, so far.
Happy growing.

Minor update

hola

Ended up with 9 female GHxT- various pheno expressions.
Kept 1 columnar-ier, chunkier-stemmed (Thai?) male.
Kept 2 smoother and thinner stemmed, side-branchier (GH?) males.
(edit: they were the last two that declared male :end edit)
Still have the 2 PHxT females, neither seeming to have much
columnar/chunk; though not having as thin/vine-y stems as a few
of the GHxT ladies, yet still long INLs and side-branching.

All ladies have been in re-veg for almost a week.
I just up-potted the last of the 9 into 2 gal. smart pots today.
All under low-ish-er light until they acclimate to their new situations.

I'll spend the next several weeks collecting/storing pollen while
the ladies get some size.

Pics when we get some bright window light.

Saludos

Hi LowFalutin,

Sounds like you have enough diversity to play with and to find interesting combinations.

Like i explained to TimeKeeper in the malawi males thread, use the most vigorous, resinous males with strong desirable aromas and higher flower and pollen production, and avoid the ones with low smell, low quality aromas, low resin production or low vigour, and of course any intersexed plant. It's good to stress the males you want to breed with to check if they have any hermie trait hidden, i didn't find hermies in the haze x thais reproduction i made outdoors 2 years ago but can not be discarded 100 % considering the extreme tropical genetics involved in the hybrid.

For the green haze thai i'm selecting towards the more compact and fatty expressions with sweet floral aromas. Gentle clear effect.

For Purple haze thai i'm selecting towards purple/reddish incensey phenos with black liquor and blackberry aromas and more introspective mental effect.

Good luck on your pheno hunt!
