Is my HPS Bulb burntout? quik help please

came home today and the 70 watt HPS that partially powers my veg. cab is OUT.

several flouros still goin though.

I have a few more higher power HPS lights in my flower cab that are way older and they are fine.

when plugged in it sounds like the ballast is trying to hum, but the light doesnt fire.

how do u know if the bulb is OUT if I dont buy a new one and try it. (is there visible evidence?)

can I throw the bulb in a 150 watt HPS ballast and see if it fires?

thanks for the quick replies guys

That's a nice link, Maj. Pothead. Here's another one, a PDF file that tells you everything you need to know about ballasts and more! Also has very similar troubleshooting page. Click on "Technical Information" to start the D/L.

My 400 watt hps did something similar but the bulb just wasn't making good contact. Unscrewed a couple turns and screwed back in and it fired up.
