salicylic acid for clone dip

When you make willow water, both salicylic acid and IBA leach into the water, and both have a beneficial effect when used for the propagation of cuttings. One of the biggest threats to newly propagated cuttings is infection by bacteria and fungi. Salicylic acid helps plants to fight off infection, and can thus give cuttings a better chance of survival. Plants, when attacked by infectious agents, often do not produce salicylic acid quickly enough to defend themselves, so providing the acid in water can be particularly beneficial.

The two substances found in the willow bark are Indole Butyric Acid (IBA) and Salicylic Acid (SA) IBA, found in the actively growing branches, stimulate rapid growth of roots. SA is a plant hormone that helps trigger the plant’s natural defenses against disease. Because both of these hormones are present, you’ll get both disease protection, and rapid root growth!

The Avant Gardener: Powell goes on to say that this may be "the most important research of the century" as it "could result in increased food production and the elimination of synthetic pesticides."

He further writes "If you would like to experiment, spray a few plants with a 1:10,000 solution (3 aspirins dissolve in 4 gal. of water), leaving other plants of the same species unsprayed. Tests with numerous plants have shown that the SAR activation lasts for weeks to months.

Garden site said
"A crushed aspirin in water (one pill to one gallon) helps plants to fight infection and stay alive during traumatic plant experiences like transplanting, cutting, cloning, or zombie attacks.
An aspirin-water solution of 250 to 500 milligrams (one or two regular aspirin tablets) of aspirin per gallon of water provides a solution similar to what has been tested; solutions at higher rates have been shown to burn foliage. Any brand of aspirin will work, but plain, uncoated tablets dissolve best. The solution should be applied every two weeks and may be used to water germinating seeds and new transplants.

300 mg aspirin has been recommend but it is only about 70% SA.
Still seems strong for a clones.

Application of (0.00, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75 mM salicylic acid (SA) through the rooting medium works good on wheat.

Readers digest says
When treating soil, the typical dosage should be a half or a full aspirin tablet in 1 quart (1 liter) water.

Softwood cuttings of one clone and one juvenile population of basswood were rooted at concentrations of 5, 50, and 100 ppm.

The salicyic acid helps prevent the plant from trying to grow a callous over the cut wound and helps keep the flow of fluids going by acting as an anti-coagulant. The rhizocaline is responsible for promoting the root growth.

So while the aspirin will function better than plain water it will not work as well as the willow bark.

Can anyone recommend a aprox. PPM for a salicylic acid for clone dip or gel?

ive been 100mg/gal by roots and 100mg/L by foliar. I started out at half that dose and noticed results. using that same concentration for rockwool. but now trying out GH rapid start which has willow bark extract in it among other things.

Thank you so much for your reply!!!
Good info is hard to come by sometimes!!!
Have you tried that strength on unrooted clones?
Or is this a recommendation for use on already rooted clones?
Thanks for your time!

i sprayed at that strength foliar, on unrooted clones. got great results. roots came out really fast. did 50% strength 50mg /gal as rw soak worked well. gh rapid start full strength 2ml/gal and botanicare auqashield at 15ml /gal got incredible roots in 6 days. very hype. im going to try a side-by-side, with control. lets talk methodology.
