Exclamation Constructing New Room Tomorrow - safety question

Hey all, wondering what type of material I should be mounting my two ballasts onto for my new 5x10 tent. Last time I did wood, and didn't feel too great about it but nothing happened.

Would some type of fire-proof panel board be a good idea?

Hittin up Lowe's tomorrow so thanks for gettin back on such short notice!

I want to make this room as professional/safe as possible so ANY other tips or advice (for organizing wires, or electrical) would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Wood works fine. Small pieces of stiff insulation board also work fine and insulate from noise (if you have magnetic ballasts).

Industrial/commercial insurance policies have forbidden direct mounting of even fluorescent fixtures to a flammable surface for years. I would suggest some spacers under the mounting feet to allow an air space behind the ballast itself. There used to be a fire-rated plywood available, but I haven't seen it in years.

In my tents, I built panels out of tempered hardboard (Masonite) that would span from one support leg to the other and used it to mount things on. I'd keep the ballasts out of the tent, and for the room itself, EMT conduit works well for keeping your wiring safe and easily updated.
