Weed is really, really, really cheap in Colorado. At least if you grow your own.

Decrim by itself is pretty half-assed. Decrim weed has to come from somewhere, somewhere illegal, and that's the problem. Illegal growers & importers are not known for necessarily being scrupulous about much of anything, certainly not what goes into their product.

Part of what legalized weed offers is a healthful product, free of dangerous pesticides, fungicides, growth regulators & so forth. There's no way to tell with street weed. OTOH, Colorado regs disallow an enormous list of chemicals in the production of weed, similar to regs about food production, which can't be a bad thing. Obviously, that's imperfect, I'm sure, but it's a move in the right direction.

Unlike Washington, Coloradans can also grow their own quite anonymously, a whole different level of decrim. Doing that, one can be certain what went into it, which can't be a bad thing, either. Not everybody wants or has what it takes to do that, so they'll just buy it, like beer.

What's funny is the local neighbor usually has better 'top shelf' around here than the disp... Maybe it's just my neighborhood?

LOL

(From those who can...)

The thing is... we're looking at the budwiser of cannabis coming and I'm of the crowd that can't stand such a low quality product. For me? Moving to Colorado a few years ago was the best decision I could have made.

It's all starting to come together in a beautiful way.

I mean... people's "parents" (70+) are talking about growing... especially with the idea of cannabis that doesn't get you high. Wow.

Keep it Clean!

I live in the rockies, Colo, and I will def grow my own. You can have 6 plants total with only 3 being in flower at any given time. I can grow 3 trees if I choose. the ounce max part of the law is on your person in public, there is zero restriction on quantity in your home. Just it all has to be behind a locked door. not outside. elk..

yup yup, I think that's one of the most beautiful things about Colorado's new law... the CONSTITUTIONAL protection to grow your own... even as cities ban the recreational sale they cannot ban the right for any person over the age of 21 to grow their 6 plants.

Good news for Colorado! Washington is working on a grow your own law too.

Being here in Southern California is not my idea of heaven but growing my own is a damn big perk.

'The beach, the mountains, the desert, pretty women, I so love this great state.' You hear that shit from some here.

For me it is: I can can grow pot legal.

the mountains rule. I have grown weed everywhere I have lived legal or not.but I moved to cali specifically for the lax weed laws and abundance of clones an seeds to be had locally in state

Dear Mr. / Ms. NAME:
As a business owner of a Retail Marijuana Cultivation Facility, it is important to know that your business must collect and remit an excise tax on the first sale or transfer of unprocessed retail marijuana at a rate of 15% of the Average Market Rate beginning January 1, 2014.[1] Please note that this is not the one time transfer of product from your Medical Marijuana Business to Retail Marijuana Establishment, but any subsequent sale or transfer of product from your Retail Marijuana Cultivation Facility to any Retail Marijuana Store, other Retail Cultivation Facility, or Retail Marijuana Products Manufacturer.
The Average Market Rate is a dollar value per pound of unprocessed retail marijuana. The Average Market Rate was calculated based on responses by industry representatives of Medical Marijuana Businesses to the survey questions sent to them in October, November, and December 2013. The surveys included questions about both arms-length transactions and integrated sales in order to respond sensitively to the statutory requirement to base the Average Market Rate on the price of all unprocessed marijuana that is sold or transferred in the state.
It is important to note that with this being a new industry; the Department of Revenue will review and evaluate the current Average Market Rate every six months.
The Average Market Rate for unprocessed retail marijuana for the period of January 1, 2014 through June 30, 2014 is:
Retail Flower Rate
$1,876/ pound
Retail Trim
$296/ pound
Retail Immature Plant
$9/ plant
For future reference, the Average Market Rate will be:
Included in the Retail Marijuana Excise Tax Return and can be used to calculate tax due when filing.
Updated on the Department’s Web site; www.TaxColorado.com Click on the “Other Taxes” tab, and then click on “Marijuana Taxes.”
