Pure Blend Pro: organic or not?
Well this was an intense area of discussion between me and some other members and I see people touting their grows as organic while using Pure Blend Pro.
Pure Blend is organic, no argument there but the Pro series is NOT. I see alot of peeps using the Pro series and using "organic" in the same breath but it is not, it contains a full hydroponic component which is why it is used so easily in bubblers. Anything fertilizer that can raise the PPM's of a solution to the rates PBP does cannot be organic, organics require ammendments that the microherd chews on to feed the plant while inorganics are readily available in ionized form which can be measured on a ppm meter. Try to get the ppm's of a guano tea in the upper 900's, you'll be there awhile... I e-mailed Botanicare on this and they make no qualms in saying it offers the best of both worlds by combining the regular PureBlend with an inorganic component. I am not saying they are not great products with fantastic results, I've used both the regular and Pro lineup as well as Liquid Karma and they are awesome but some need to be aware of the tricks of publicity and hydrostore BS. Happy Organic Growing Sub's

interesting, i always thought it was but i've never used it since its so expensive.
metanaturals ain't all organic either, i'm sure that most complete 'organic' nutrients really aren't if you're being strict about it

Well since you mention it I think the ultimate realization of any organic grower is that what he pays so dearly for in bottled ferts he can mix in his soil and feed in teas at a much lower cost.
Bottled ferts are an easy fix to an un-planned grow, anyone who is growing more than a few plants on an organic scale are ammending their soil and even recycling it, to use these tecniques effectively you have to balance what you feed them in their water. To me it's so simple to ammend a soil mix with readily and cheaply available elements and supplement as those elements in the soil get exhausted. I think 3LB and BOG had some solid recipies that were easiy to implement in an organic grow on a larger scale. The almighty $ peeps...

Says it right on the bottle... "hydro-organic" , not organic. My understanding is it is all 'natural', mined minerals. Its also one of the more expensive nutrients out there... but I've read nothing but good about it.
I've never taken a tds reading on a tea, but the general hydroponic bio bizz line (atleast the grow) at less than max strength going by the bottle is easily 1500+ppm, and its OMRI listed, derived from only molasses...

check it out.... this came from a thread that Lucas did. https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.p...ighlight=Lucas Lots of great information here and the first url gives you a good idea of how crazy this "certified organic" deal is

Well.....It is fermented...my best guess is that explains the high PPM levels with smaller amounts...
I like PBP....I remember a thread at OG about PBP and that it has higher heavy metal levels than some growers like....as far as hydro goes.....I would use nothing else...then again I haven't tried anything else {except Maxicrop with the PBP in the res} I'd rather not use PBP in a soil grow...other than than to touch up on some needed micro's or something that Maxicrop can't fix...it is alot softer of a nutrient than fish poo. I must say I love the way PBP smells.....sort of a spice.. |

Hey guys thanks for pitching in, it will definately help generate some discussion on what we as a MJ community regard as organic.
The couch: Quote:
Bab: thanks for those links I've read them awhile ago, I totally agree that a refined source of hydro nutes can equal or outproduce any organic fertilizer regiment, no arguements there. The problem is not everyone is using high quality hydro nutes and the practices of hydroponic is wasteful and has a negative impact on the environment, a problem no one really adresses in our community. Recirculation systems that only count on addbacks are about as close to environmental we can hope for, trashing reservoirs full of still usable yet unbalanced nutes is of greater concern to me than whether a product is OMRI listed or not. I think, like we've seen in BOG's setups and what I've experienced in my own garden, using the regular PureBlend and enriching the soil with the RIGHT ammendments can lead to a tastier hardier grow with a soil that can be re-used and further enriched with every cycle.

There are 2 formulas, the Pure Blend is organic, the PureBlend PRO is not it is the same formula + a hydro component.
