Allergic To Cannabis?! How did this happen...

Hey all, was wondering if anyone has developed an allergic reaction to our beloved plant at anytime in their life.

I recently was led to believe that I accidentally smoked moldy weed, but with more research it sounds like I've developed an allergy it. I only realized this after not smoking for a day, and seeing improvement on my symptoms. I would then go to burp my jars that are curing, and my throat would start to swell up again. It's worse after I smoke, so I feel like that is the problem.

Symptoms include:

Throat closing (not completely but swelling)
skin rash
sweating/chills/face flushing
hypersensitivity
ringing in ears
involuntary twitching in extremities

I really don't want to throw my grow career away. I have a lot of money invested in my room and to have to take it down would be heartbreaking for me guys.

BUT. If I am indeed allergic to it, it's not worth suffering over. I'm trying out some allergy meds tonight and will work in the garden to see whats up, but I'm curious if anyone else out there is like me.

Thanks for the support guys, can always count on icmag to come through!

I know for a fact that I'm allergic to the pollen of males, sneezing fits something fierce!

No ill effect ever noticed from the girls tho.

Yo P n'P.

It's just some seasonal type of flue thingy man.

Our whole country has it atm, all the same symptomps as you were describing above.
Last time I saw an epidemy like this must have been some 35 years ago.

Oh, and THC seems to make it worse.

If I smoke THC rich bud it 'll hurt my vocal cords wich makes me gagg & coff, If I smoke THC free bud like my Finola hemp I ain't got no itch at all.

It'll pass, lol

I'm super allergic. If I work in my room even non flowering plants cause bumps on my skin. If I'm trimming I have to wear a mask, take an allergy pill(claritin), and afterwards take Mucinex to break up the buildup in my respiratory system. I can hear myself wheezing at night when I go to sleep. It's not good and I'm not the only one I know that has this problem. Only one other person I know has it as bad as me.

I think it's the result of living in my warehouse for 3-4 years straight and trimming every 5 weeks. Constantly being exposed to it and inhaling it in my sleep.

I try not to trim herb anymore. I can usually do it for 2-3 days, after which I need to take a few days off. I definitely don't smoke during harvest time as it just makes things worse for me.

Best of luck sorting it out. I also know that it's allergy season where I'm at so I don't think that's helping.

This is similar to what is common with woodworkers and cabinetmakers. After years of exposure to wood dust, allergy's would develop. The more resinous woods like pine always were first in aggravating a reaction.

I wonder if you could get allergy shots to help?

Thats EXACTLY what happened to me. I trimmed 10 plants from one site in a swamp with little foliage surrounding it... no reaction.
Then trimmed one plant I had in a nutrient-rich swamp with tons of vegetation surrounding it (2 weeks later) and couldn't trim for more than 2 hrs at a time without my throat swelling. I smoked a sample pack from that plant and my throat got really tight... had to get fresh air. Haven't blazed that shit since, might give it to a friend if they don't react to it like I did... :/

Whaaa really?! I didn't know it was that widespread. It just really worried me because the last time I was sick was 9 yrs ago I'm healthy as an ox usually. Chills and everything are starting to subside so you may be right brotha...

btw I hope you had a good season! I know we spoke a few times during pre-season

Damn man, wheezing doesn't sound too good to be honest. You may be allergic, or even worse (and hopefully not) you may have high Aspergillus levels (type of mold commonly found in grow ops due to the breaking down of organic materials / humidity / moisture). If youre using hydro then no need to worry... but if not then you might wanna get the mold spore count inside your warehouse. It's called "Farmer's Lung" and originated back in the day when farmers would burn large amounts of Aspergillus-contaminated corn and it got in the air.

Just make sure you don't have it, peep the link below and tell me you don't so I feel better LOL. Any kind of fungi inhilation can lead to SERIOUS lung problems.

It makes sense doesn't it? I feel like it's your body's way of saying "enough is enough" or something. I really hope I'm not allergic, cannabis is my love and my life. Passionate grower, passionate smoker, strain connoisseur and then some lol.

They did consider making allergy shots for cannabis but it hasn't been put into affect yet... think more research needs to be done / laws need to allow it since it would require a dose of cannabis in the shot itself. Such a good idea though, some day enough people will have the same problem and it'll be done. Just a waiting game!
