I plan on doing my first outdoor grow this spring in the Midwest...Im starting from clone.. I want to pre dig my holes and REPLACE the soil... I want the soil to be organic and be left alone for a month at a time...i also dont mind mixing soil.. I also dont wont to use any blood or bone meal fearing animals will be attracted.. And i have the choice of buying ingredients from a hydro store or gardening supply store so a lot of options are open...

I am not an expert on outdoor growing but I've picked up some tricks from my outdoor friends as of late.

You'll need a ProMix type soiless medium to which you will add:

30% perlite
2tbs of dolomite lime /gallon of soil

that's a base mix to which any ammendments may be added

10% earth worm castings IMHO are a must but can be hard to come by.

Kelp and seaweed can attract bugs while blood or bone meal can attract critters, it's all in the way you will maintain the site, if you put a layer of large size gravel away from the stem but covering exposed soil then critters will be discouraged.
I think in the case of outdoor grows if a source of fresh water is available close to your grow then organic bottled ferts and topdressing the soil with guano will be a good option.

I've been thinking about your situation and I think if your were to compost earth mix with blood and bone meal that has composted for say 4 weeks+ then they'll be broken down into your mix and will not be very tasty to furry bastards.
All you have to do is mix all the above ingredient plus blood and bone and even kelp meal and just add water that has been fortified with 1TBS per gallon of molasses bubbled for 24hrs (to rid chlorine which can damage the beneficial bacteria in the worm castings), the sugar will provide some munchies for the beneficials to bulk up on.
The bacteria and fungi will take hold of the soil and create an ecosystem in the soil, the first stage is the heat, the soil will be teaming with life and work up a heat wich will taper off after a week or so.
and use the ammendments as a food source turning them into a form of nutrient that the plant can absorb.
Once this occurs it's very rich and full of potential fertilizer ready to use, use a well established clone in it and use the stones to cover the topsoil, you'll prob. have to worry about rabits more than anything lol.

Blood Meal (N source)
Kelp Meal (K and micro-nutrients)
Mulch (put on top of soil to hold moisture)

Having a good supply of slow releasing nutes is good for outdoors. The mulch isn't nessacerry but it helps retain moisture in soil. Anothr good idea would be to add some expanding water crystals just in case you can't get to water them often. Espoma carries a organic fert called Plant-Tone that contains everything a plant needs to grow good including micronutrients. So some of that would be good too. If you do use that then don't add the Blood Meal because it already has it. The Bone is fine because it releases slow and the plants will use it when it comes time to bloom.

I have seen the espoma brand at some nurseries so i should be able to get a hold of it... How much of this stuff should i add for a gallon of promix?
Also do you think animals will dig this up if i use bone meal?
