Why do certain recipies work?
So how do you decide that a gallon of soil gets a certain amount of nutrient, do you factor in slow release versus fast release? Can someone lead me to a link that discusses how to come up with soil ammendments that do get the job together? The reason I ask is because I am just interested in knowing more about fertilizers, rather than just following recipies, I want to know why certain recipies work.

I think this site is the best text-book ever..almost interactive,,esp.if you get someone riled-up..haha.There is no ''one cure all recipe''.If you dig around here, you can find some that are close to perfect though..Our fav. plant has some basic needs that need to be met..and many of the other addatives are just that...extra's..just in case.Myself,I'am never really satisfied with my soil..I always think theres more that I can do,to better the environment. The mistakes you make along the way are the best lessons Ever...good luck!!!

Thanks for the reply. I could defintley be going through the other forums, and it's not a holy grail of soils I seek, I just kinda wanted to know the sceince aspect behind all of it. Like why those nitrients or micronutrients, what sources provide such nutrients and what the concentration does to other things...guess I should go to school...again.
