I'm wondering where i can find some silk screens to use on some trim. what are they actually used for/what part of the craft or art store will i find them in?

They're used in the screen printing of cloth, usually shirts.

dick blicks and other higher end art supply stores sell silk screen. try to find a place that sells it by the yard in the different sizes.

Yes I suggest an art supply store. It comes in sizes like 10XX, 12XX, 14XX, from small to large. The smaller the number, the smaller the holes! The 10XX is a pretty good median size as long as you dont shake too hard. If you would like very pure scuff, try to find a size 6XX screen. However, keep in mind that it will take you a long time to shake a good amount out. If you are ever doing larger amounts, a larger size might be desirable to speed things up.

When you go to the store you will need to have an employee cut your pieces off the roll. You may want to ask for sample size screens so you can try the different mesh sizes and see which one fits you best. Should cost ya around $5, usually they sell by the yard, around $12 per.
