Marc Emery Apologizes: Emery Says he Lied in 2009 About Smoking with Trudeau
OTTAWA -- Pro-pot activist Marc Emery is offering his mea culpas to Justin Trudeau from a U.S. jail for saying he'd smoked pot a few times with the Liberal leader.
But Emery said he did get high once with Trudeau in August 2003 on a restaurant patio in Vancouver, though it was Emery "doing most of the smoking." Trudeau said Friday Emery was "flat out lying" about the 2009 allegations, only met Emery once, and abstained from any pot use with the activist. Emery apologized in an emailed response to questions about his remarks. In the email, forwarded to QMI Agency on Saturday by his wife Jodie Emery, he says it was a "very loose and irresponsible misrepresentation of what most people would regard '4 or 5 times.' "I am indeed recorded telling a falsehood that until now, I was unaware was out there. I'm totally embarrassed about it. I take my reputation very seriously, as of course, does Mr. Trudeau, and I'm really saddened that I have caused him some grief by this clear misrepresentation." Emery said a video of his remarks only began circulating online after his 2010 sentencing and incarceration in Yazoo City federal prison in Mississippi, where he's currently serving a five-year term for selling pot seeds by mail. "I am wrong, wrong, wrong," he said. "That video was recoded in July 2009, I was clearly upset that in the 2009 session of Parliament, Mr. Trudeau supported the Conservative legislation on mandatory minimums for pot." The video shows Emery calling the now Liberal leader a "hypocrite" for voting along with the rest of the Liberal caucus in favour of Bill C-15, which would have introduced tougher penalties for growing pot plants and saying he'd smoked pot with Trudeau on more than one occasion. C-15 did not pass but similar legislation became law in 2012 as part of omnibus crime bill Bill C-10. Earlier this week, Trudeau revealed he'd smoked pot "five or six" times in his life, including once about three years ago at a dinner party. He was MP for the Montreal riding of Papineau at the time. |

He's a true office politic that happens to smoke weed, is how I think of emery after this comment right here....
"I am wrong, wrong, wrong," he said. "That video was recoded in July 2009, I was clearly upset that in the 2009 session of Parliament, Mr. Trudeau supported the Conservative legislation on mandatory minimums for pot." so what because you're emotional it breaks ground to start lying, so that to make people jump to support your cause?? Our cause is right we don't need to lie, people like emery and others need to lie Oh and his wifes hot, but I don't like her either |

That's very much up in the air. The US DoJ has approved him for transfer to a Canadian prison to serve out the remainder of his sentence. But the Canadian Government has to request that transfer first.
Safe bet would be to assume that he will not be transferred back to Canada until the very last possible day. Given Canada's parole laws, Emery would be expected to be released on parole almost immediately upon his transfer. The current Conservative government in Ottawa clearly does not like Marc Emery and has a policy, generally, of not requesting transfers back of any Canadian citizens who are convicted of drug crimes abroad. There is, sadly, every reason to assume that Marc Emery will be in prison for as long as the authorities can legally keep him there. Less than a year to go it looks like right now, with his release to take place probably June, 2014 -- but who knows? |

Quote:
As a lot of those activists are currently supporting the Green Party or the NDP. Indeed, Marc's wife, Jodie Emery, ran as a candidate for the Green Party in the last election. So going all-in behind Trudeau and the Liberals is a significant request by Emery of grass-roots activists, especially in B.C., in favor of Trudeau. It's an example of practical politics by Emery that, to be perfectly honest, a lot of activists in Emery's native B.C. are simply too idealistic to easily accept. Emery is right, but it is going to take a while for those activists to switch their political allegiances. Moreover, there are also a lot of growers in B.C. whose incomes are gravely threatened by Trudeau's policy. Unlike with Prop 19, say, where the market price was not as completely threatened due to cannabis continuing to be a Schedule 1 drug, the situation in Canada with this proposal is very different. My point: you should take a lot of negative comments concerning Trudeau and his proposal for legalization of cannabis in Canada well-salted. The growers' wallets are starting to do most of their talking for them. I've seen it here on ICM already in the past week. At the end of the day, Emery went to jail for what literally hundreds of others were doing without reproach or interference. Emery went to jail because he called Bush's "Drug Czar" a liar to his face during a speech in Vancouver (and he was lying, too) and because Emery spent most of his dollars from seed sales on "the cause." Say what you want about Emery, but a man who puts his money where his mouth is and does five years in prison for it is a more committed activist than anybody I know. And I expect a more sincere activist than those that you know, too. It also takes some real courage to admit to Canada's news media that you lied. How all of that weighs out in your personal scales is up to you. But in my view, it isn't fair to leave those factors off of the scale when you are weighing and judging Marc Emery. |

I never liked Mark Emery as a person, and his seeds where seriously overpriced, but I will stand behind him every day, he´s fighting the good cause and have always done so, never been afraid to stand up for what he believes in, and as fatigues says, always put his money where his mouth is, so much respect to him and I wish him a speedy return to freedom
