I have 5 grows using aquarium HOT5s (@54w). Although results have been very good under 432w, I am in the process of replacing them with led tubes (fixture must be retrowired)
Here are 2 clones near done, both under 4 @ 4ft led tubes ~ 20w per= 80 w of 3000K led tubes + some globes for under canopy 6-8 tubes would really rock Oops, forgot to mention, these are readily available from China (alibaba). You have to search, or ask, for small quantity.

It looks like you got good results with those, PetFlora. I have been thinking of leds myself and will take a look at those. Thanks for posting.

Some info to where you can buy the light in OZ would be appreciate Guys.
Philips MASTER PL-L 55W/830/4P 1CT Colour code 830 3000k 4800 Lm www ecat.lighting.philips.com.au I've use's 4 of there's 55watt 4 pin pll in a 2x2 foot cabinet getting around .5 /.6 per watt in Sog with 40 or so clones hand feed in COCO no flush just some straight water every 2 week. I use's Nutrifield NF COCO A&B nutrients. I have seen them at bunnings as well and I'm sure they can get them in for you at the special order desk. I'm planning a 3 shelf setup 4x HO 54watt tubes per shelf 2700/5500 mix. Top shelf I will be using 4x125watt cfl mix again using clones from lower shelves to stock upper shelf. With any luck I should pull in around 120g per month. |

CAUTION: All Fluorescent Lights Contain Mercury
Sadly, it seems few growers got the memo- fluorescent lights contain mercury. They must be disposed of via hazardous waste in USA
If you break one in your room you will inhale vapors, as will your pets. LEDs is where it's at, just not the cheap chinese knockoffs. See my new thread for details

Thanks for the input but not all of us can afford Led. I've so far been lucky and never broken a tube yet well in my home that is. Shit as a kid i would brake them every chance i got. Its more likely i would have got more mercury in my system from eating fish.
This is all i could find at alibaba T5 High Bay Lighting Fixture 4x54W. T5 HO 54W aquarium tube min order 1000 no good. |

I paid $25 for quality HOT5s, and $35/20w led tube which last 20x+ longer, and perform 70% as well, so add 30% more lights to achieve 54w benefit
So you think you get more exposure from fish huh? Mercury vapor goes right into your lungs and bloodstream, when eaten much passes through, but will find it its' way to the liver- not a good thing, but can be extracted via chelation or chelating products like blu-green algae Peace out
