Electric Advice Needed Plz
Hi. I have 240V mains.
I have a 15amp outlet which I have plugged a 15meter/50 foot (15amp rated) extension chord in to. That is then plugged into the 15 amp rated orange 'power block' you can see in the pic. The power block has 4 outlets, problem is I need a few more outlets, so is it ok to plug the 10 amp power board into it as you can see in the pic? I asked the manufacturer and they said it was ok as long as I don't exceed the specifications of the 'power block'. Plugged into the 'power block' will be: 1000 watt ballast 1400 watt portable AC 280 watt dehumidifier And the 10 amp power board Plugged into the power board will be: 160 watt (2x 80 watt) fans 50 watt pedestal fan Total watt 2890 I can do away with the dehumidi and AC if need be as im running intake/exhaust and just deal with less then ideal conditions at times. Which is a better alternative then burning down my storage room Advice from those in the know much appreciated ![]() |

Hello GreenLimousine, OK, volts X amps = watts. 240 volts X 15 amps=3600 watts. That is the maximum you can safely use for short bursts, such drilling a hole. For continuous use the maximum watts used should be 80% X 3600 watts =2880 watts, or 10 watts (not much) under your requirement. If you have a Smart Meter you can easily check the actual line voltage- mine runs about 245volts, or enough to make up the difference. A much bigger concern is voltage drop over the 15 meter extension cord. Is it possible to use a 20 amp cord? Number 12 copper wire for 20 amps- Better yet a 30 amp, number10 copper cord would be sweet! I am not familiar with the cord cap design in the picture. Could you make-up your own extension?

Thanks for replying FEV.
I'm going to bite the bullet and get some quotes from electricians to have power hooked up out there as it would be convenient to have some power outlets for other things as well. Thanks again man. |
