Sativa Loco Test Grow: Cannafornia Seeds
I was lucky enough to be chosen to test Cannafornia Seeds' Sativa Loco, by Alien Dawg. The beans arrived on August 8th but I couldn't get to the secret mountain rendezvous until August 9th, and popped the six beans into my lucky shotglass last night. After a 24 hour soak they were planted in LC's Mix #1, in l'il peat pots from Lowe's Hardware. Here's a few pics, but the beans were elusive and refused to be captured well on film. As one would expect from alien genetics... but they were all well-shaped and mottled. One bigger than the rest but all super-looking beans! I also received 6 beans of Caliente Kong! Quote:
Caliente Kong King Kong x Golden Mexican sativa 70/30 Sat/Ind Golden Mexican Sat = Mexican Oaxacan x Pakistani x Durban Poison King Kong = All Star Genetics 60/40 sat/ind King-Kong = Red Congolese x Northern Lights #5 x Haze (from ********** eu). I was excited enough about the Mexican genetics, but I see two African strains represented here. I've never tasted any bud with African background so I'm really stoked!!! But we'll have to hold off on the CK for a little bit, but we're gonna grow them next and do a test thread. Thanks, Alien Dawg! (and Clarence!) |

Now back to Sativa Loco = 80's Sativa x Golden Mexican Sativa
80/20 Sat/Ind Golden Mexican Sat = Mexican Oaxacan x pakistani x Durban Poison 80's Sat = Mexican Sativa = Mexico x Hash Plant x Durban So this one's alot of Mexican, which was my favorite back in the old days. I called it compresso weed - not too seedy or stemy, and a nice functional buzz. And I spaced the Durban in this cross! Super-stoked as I haven't toked any African stuff! This is gonna be a great plant to grow!!! |

It seemed to me quite a few seeds were larger than the others and wonder if you kept track of the larger one ? I would like to see if there is a constant difference between the smaller and larger beans. I tried to separate and add one of the lager beans to a few packs.. Quote:
It's awesome to have testers that get excited about the background details/heritage... ![]() Do as you do at your pace... Those CK should stay good as long as needed having been Vac sealed... Quote:
and knowing the complex highs and wonderful flavors that MEX-Genetics offer... I feel its only natural that this (M.G.) be my starting point with breeding and I can chase those highs I remember so fondly and bring them to the surface... The main concern I have with Mexican heritage from yesteryear is their lack of culling the males and seeded bud... (though the better quality smoke had few if any seed) This is one of the main reason I decided I needed help from testers. I would like to try and find which region of mexico these came from.. By the looks of enough plants grown I feel I might be able to compare and discover the most likely origin...

No, I didn't put numbered tabs in 'em until last night. It could be #1 or #6 but there's a chance they got moved around...
But I had one seedling up this morning and the rest were up when I got home tonight. Nice lime-green color... Sounds good, I'm interested too! I've heard of the Oaxaca Highland, Highland Oaxaca Gold (HOG?), some kinda spear buds from Guerrero, and Michoacan from old Cheech and Chong records. I wouldn't know what any of those strains looked like, though...not yet anyways! |

So here's some quick pics of the 6, 3rd day above ground. They are all very uniform, happy and healthy! Three or four had a funny little cotyledon leaf curl, on one leaf only, that looked like the leaf was trying to do a somersault!
Mucho loco, I hadn't seen that before! It didn't seem so much a mutation as a vigorous unfolding of the seedling. I didn't get any pics before they straightened out. |
